Streetfighters SF 10 Dec93/Jan94
« on: November 16, 2009, 01:35:11 AM »

The law is a joke and I don't find it funny any more. Let me tell you
why. About ten weeks ago I was involved in a road traffic accident.
It was hit and run - or would of been if l hadn't given chase. When he eventually did
stop the driver‘s ill-mannered demeanour very nearly got him a good, hard slap. And
just in case that last sentence is misconstrued as hard-man posturing let me
qualify it by saying that three very capable colleagues of mine where following behind -
including my old man, who still has a punch that could knock out a polar bear. After
shouting his big ugly mouth off fora full five minutes the toe rag got back in his car and
drove off, refusing to leave his name address or any insurance details. As he left, a taxi
pulled up and the driver said he had seen the whole thing and would be a witness if l
needed one. I went straight to the nearest police station, gave a a statement, and had
the damage booked down.

A month went by. Six Weeks. Eight weeks. I was told that the delay
was my fault because I`d gone a quarter of a mile up the road to report the incident when I
should have actually done was drive to another station five miles down the road in
the direction l'd just come. Of course, how stupid of me. I received an estimate for the
damage - five hundred quid, and that was from a guy who owed me a big favour. Nine
weeks. I was called into the station to check my statement. Guess what?
‘I'm afraid that the nature of the alleged offence and the amount involved doesn’t
warrant any further action being taken.” But that wasn't the best of it. When I dared
to question the investigating PC`s judgement the civilian clerk said, ‘I don't
know why you want to go driving around in something that cost so much money
anyway,

And what the fuck exactly is that supposed to mean?
So let's get this right- You can leave the scene of an accident, refuse to exchange
Insurance details and, even if the guy has a independent witness, you can just walk away
from the whole unpleasant business because the police will do nothing.
Which is fair enough because i am only ?500 out of pocket and it was my fault for
driving around in something fancy.
I,ll tell you what i am not going to do. I'm going to all the body shop and tell them i cant be botherd
paying the bill because it for such an insignificant amount.
I mean what are they going to do - get the police on me?
