a big job but i would be tempted to cut the top out of original and drop it a couple inches then get it welded back together and bodyfiller the line same angle as seat ?

back away from the seat unit issue and look at the stance , one more idea is to try yamaha tank cover idea of getting a fuel cell made :nocomment:

the problem is the tank has an airbox for the gsxr 1000 engine , so its then a case of fitting a pipercross kit car air filter thing ?80 and loose the top of the airbox (can double up as electric tray ) then i nead a heal tech to sort the running these plug into the diagnostic plug to sort out the new mapping :freaked:

sfc the yammy tank cover  might end up as a template for a fiberglass mould
, its narrow so will need cutting and expanding then more fun with fiberglass :big grin:

My first thought was to chop the rear out of the tank harris mag 5 style but if its a case of wanting to keep the airbox i reckon you could get a similar effect with paint, similar to what you've already tried but curved in the same way as the mag 5 cutout is
for a better power to weight ratio DIET !

the rear of the tank is where the fuel is , and a bit in the sides and top .
slim i know what you mean about painting it .
