bloody hell came off at 180 did he die?
imagine clippin your legs off the central reservation at that speed. you would be lucky to ride a weelchair after that u think.
sayin that i always see people walk away from the most dangerous lookin crashes but its the simple ones that do you in. not that i wana put that theory to the test or out.

is that the straight where rutter (I think) pulled over 200 on a fireblade in the TT?cargo wrote:I'm told that at this years Manx GP on the TT course there will be a radar speed trap at the end of a very long straight
not true.cargo wrote:The legal requirment for clocks is that they be accurate to within 10%
Thats why if your doing 33mph in a 30 you wont get done cos your clock may well be reading 30...................I hope
clocks are legally required NOT to read any less than the speed you are actually doing. They can overread to a certain percentage at various speeds (I think about 8mph at 60 is one of the criteria).
so if a manufacturer can produce a speedo which has an accuracy of say plus/minus 3mph, at 30mph you could be doing anywhere between 27 and 33.
however because of the requirement not to underread, it will actually be calibrated so if you are doing 30mph it could read anywhere between 30 and 36mph (33 plus or minus 3mph)
and rob, afaik you are right, there is no reason why a digital speedo would be any more accurate than an analogue one. If you really want to know, buy a gps set.

2nd paragraph, doesnt say how fast but he was doing 170/180 im sure of it. I think if you hit a central reservation at that speed it would be like falling into a lawnmower.

To be fair it was a 2 stroke factory race bike so yeah it was defo that fast.
All right, he didn't break every bone. There must be the odd bit of unadulterated calcium in his small, sharp, lively frame. But in 1975, a blown rear tyre caused him to crash at 280kmh during practice for the Daytona 200 in Florida, shattering his left leg, smashing a thigh, breaking six ribs, fracturing a wrist, and wrecking his collarbone. He woke up in hospital and asked the nurse for "a fag".

I think the 500's in those days were putting out something like 150 horsepower.

My friend's boyfriend was doing 120mphish on his bandit 1200 over the wessex way flyover couple of years back.
Wearing a tshirt and motocross lid and had her on the back (gave her his jacket and best lid, nice of him) Anyways, bike lifted off over the hump fo the bridge, she fell off the back, he fell off and his arm got ripped off because it got trapped in the back wheel somehow.
She lost 3 fingers on her left hand too cos she had no gloves on and they just rashed into the grit. He died almost instantly.
She said she saw his speedo and it said 85mph approaching the bridge, but the forensics report said in excess of 120mph for the length and breadth of the damage sustained and resting position of the vehicle.
Needless to say, she hates bikes now.
