2nd one, flew through last year with no issues -fingers crossed for another good result this year, had to replace indicator stalks as one was knackered - my only convern is teh exhaust on it - it doesnt say not for road use / race only on it, but Its damn loud !!!!

guys at stealth never had an issue with it - but didnt want to take it all the way to redditch as mot expired last week, and have been waiting for the indicators, so ended up taking it to teh place around the corner from my work - fingers crossed !!!

It's completely at the testers discretion now.

I think unless they've got into trouble over it before, most will pass pretty much anything these days...

theres no reason for the mot tester to start the bike

and in regards to the mot expiring, legally you can take any vehicle on the road without an mot providing you are on your way to/from an mot test

thoguht that might have been the case, but wasnt sure how it would sit with the insurnace comp if i had an accident - so figure 1mile was better than 20 - figured they will start bike to get it into the testing bay, maybe not !

go down the road everyday on the bike, so figure they have an idea of howloud the bike is ! scooter place too, so not sure if thats going to work in my advantage or not

Main stuff (that i dont have an issue with) - dodgy front wheel bearings - need replacing

Rear swing arm bearing needs replacin.

Guy in shop quoted £16 for set of bearings for front wheels - does that seem right ? and £20 for the other bearings ( will throw up a pic once fairings are off so can show what he's talking about)

should be able to pick front bearing up for less than a tenner for both. Rear swinger bearings seem cheap. Theres 3 in total, 2 of which are a tenner each and only available from kawasaki last i tried to get them. The 3rd is a relatively cheap one.

Surprised the exhaust failed, mine got an advisory, but I suppose it depends how loud it is. Reg. plates are pretty cheap off ebay (just make sure you get the right size/lettering). you can get sticky reflectors.

My CRM 250 initially failed its mot cos the lights didn't work, the horn didn't work, the indicators didn't work , brake lights didn't work- then I pointed out that it had no battery and it had to be running for the lights to work.

the MOT chap slapped his forehead and laughed at himself.

Then it passed.


As for getting the bits, just let the chap get and fit them all. these back street garages are disappearing because of people buying everything off t'internet and then asking them to fit them. they need to pay for the garages they work in, and I can't say how much free advice and work I have had done on my bikes over the years from Mike Cutler because I don't mind paying an extra £5 for a set of braided hoses for my ZXR, etc.
Same goes for Bournemouth Kawasaki - they don't charge for fitting a tyre for me anymore when I get a puncture, as it happens quite a lot. (And again, I am so glad I got the ER6N - cheaper rubber than the ninja) yeah I could get it £10 cheaper off the net, but I'd have to wait for it, pay to fit it, and I don't know if they would really give me their Z/1000 or ZX10 as a courtesy bike for the afternoon at short notice (5 mins?) while they fit it in their busy schedule. Ahem.

i have yo go back in to order the stuff - he wasnt sure whihc wheel bearing to order as my bikes on the cusp of 1989 / 1990


the bearing at the back (he refers to it as the central front bearing) is from what he said the one by the exhaust / rear shock - he told me i would have to disconect the rear shock, pop a plank of wood to stop the bike sagging too much and then he said it would be possible to remove the unit to then replace the one bearing - bit confusing - was going to grab some pics on the camera and go in to check iv got the right bit !

ordered new plates and a reflector last night, need to bodge the exhaust now to quieten it down a bit now

when it comes to front wheel bearings - i remove the spindle etc... and then the circlips covering the bearings - the manual says there is a special tool to then remove the bearings - do i need this - or will a screw driver or similar do the job ?

Screwdriver will do.

yeah a screwdriver will do but use an old one, not your best.

Sounds like the linkage bearings hes talking about that need replacing.

Yeah, use a screwdriver that you don't mind bashing the hell out of, I bet they don't come out easy.

Reds i might have bearings at work for ya if you aint got them already, also have a decibel killer for your end can to quieten it down a touch, you know where i am if you need us?
