Re: top speed
I think a few mags have tested stock models at a genuine 143mph wehn they were released and some years later.
I saw well over 150 on my clocks before the rebore so that sounds about right!
They're stupidly fast for a small bike - but then that's what Kawasaki have always done well.

Re: top speed
I got myself a GPS timer which also gives top speed, and we're off to Thruxton on the 17th, so I'll post here what I manage to get to on a slightly tuned ZXR geared for top speed. Should be more accurate than speedo reading too.
Would be even more interesting if the front guys were able to tell us what they get up to.

Re: top speed
I remember being tucked in behind the screen, going indicated 135mph or so, and over the course of 2 miles, catching up on and overtaking a big guy on an R6 whose belly was too large to fit in the seat unit, let alone tuck down behind his screen.
It was one of my proudest moments with Wakka.

As soon as I'd ridden my 125 home after passing the full test I jumped on my ZXR400 and went straight to the local bypass - I took it to that magical 135 figure before I chickened out. It was a bloody marvelous moment!

Re: top speed
My ER6N showed a not so impressive 134mph, but on that style of bike, it's really hard to hold on to the bugger.
Come to think of it, I really want my 400 up and running again..
Been using my ninja for a couple of weeks and I love the 88mph in 1st gear. Lol.

Re: top speed
gotta watch the ER6N speedos. Mine is wildly optimistic. Indicated 140 works out to 128 on the GPS

Re: top speed
So, the fastest I went acording to my gps timer was... a mere 127mph. This was into a fair wind on the back straight (or what passes for a straight at Thruxton).-GQ- wrote:I got myself a GPS timer which also gives top speed, and we're off to Thruxton on the 17th, so I'll post here what I manage to get to on a slightly tuned ZXR geared for top speed. Now I'm not the fastest by a long shot, but I lapped in the low 1:30s (best lap of 1:31.4) and was in the points. Which leaves the question, are road bike speedos really that badly cailbrated? Or were the 140s and 150s helped by stong winds and rollercoaster roads?

Re: top speed
135mph indicated, but that wasn't fully topped out and I had a full tank bag so couldn't tuck behind the screen.jackdim wrote:I haven't even topped mine out yet! I need to get on it and report back
