Buying New bikes

Has anyone here ever done it?
Yesterday and today iv managed to clear 2 finance agreements! Fucking get in!!!
So, now that ive got a bit of spare cash each month im looking into the possibility of buying a new bike in the new year, however i cant stand the thought of loosing possibly a few grand once iv ridden the bike off the forecourt. Theres the obvious advantage of having it from new, knowing theres no hidden history, and your the one who's run it in through its first 500 miles. Its just loosing that value once its been ridden.
With kawasaki bringing out a load of new models for 2010, im wondering if that will drive down the prices on what will then be the older models, therefore not loosing as much?
Any thoughts people?

Once your new bike turns a wheel on the road it's value drops by exactly the amount of tax you paid in the purchase price and there is nothing you can do about that.
and the value will continue to drop for some years................untill it hits a base figure................if your lucky it becomes a classic and values start to grow again
If you want brand new shop around.........................you can get some great deals on a 09 model now that the 2010 bike are starting to appear.
Try Kawasaki Direct

I reckon it's better to buy some 'almost new' bike from a dealer instead. That way it's already taken the biggest hit to the value but still under warranty etc.
It'll still drop in value, but you won't be as tied to keeping it for 5 years as you would with a new bike for fear of losing too much money on it.

I've looked at new ZX6Rs myself. New with interest free finance is quite attractive especially when you consider the cost of finance on a year old bike at a dealer, which brings the real purchase cost closer together. Of course the best value has to be in a well looked after 1 year old privately owned bike for almost £3k under list price bought for cash.

Those 1 year old hardly used jobbies are an absolute bargain for you... Though like you say it's how they were treated in that first 500 miles or so that is important!
I think that at some point in your life you should have a brand spanking new bike that no-one else has ever ridden as it just makes it more special to you. And if you have that sort of cash handy now then why not!!

I have to agree 2nd hand is best value from what ive seen, purely because its taken the biggest price drop, but i also agree having a brand new bike at least once in my life is a must, but its not a ZX10R im after, its a Versys! I really like the new 2010 model. Ive got almost everything i need from the ZXR too, so dont really feel the need to go and get another sports bike.
Ive only looked at a few dealers so far and only one is including it in the 0% finance which is only running till 31 Dec this year. So they may continue it as i remember they did that before as it was going so well! Also becuase its part of the 0% finance a min of £99 deposit is required, so if i wanted i could go and get another bike tomorrow!
But ive more or less decided to get christmas out the way and try and wait for the new 2010 model and see what finance options they are offering at the time, if they continue whats already running then my luck is in! also gives me time to save some cash and get as muct initially paid off as possible.

I have had 2 brand spankers in my time, and since said never again but I'm starting to change my mind again. Its really nice having a new bike and brings piece of mind that you are unlikely to breakdown somewhere and the bike is going to start when you want it to, the only thing I would say is make sure its a bike you like and are going to keep for a while because then I dont think depreciation matters or it wouldnt to me anyway!

You see i did consider that if i kept it for a long while the depreciation wouldnt matter as it would be spread over the years, only if i came to sell it in a year or so. For most of my bikes ive only ever changed them once they are worn out or the money has been there to get another. Ive had my current ZXR 6 years now! And I dont recall a bike ive sold that hasnt had something wrong with it, apart from my ZX7.

Just so you know, ive sold them making sure the new owner is aware!

That's what Ebay is there for!
I've sold bikes on there with blown engines, severe crash damage, and general buggeredness - I just put it loud and clear in the listings and didn't try and hide anything and people still bought them!

Ive taken one step closer today. This morning before work (like 1am, i start at 2am!) i was on Colchester Kawasaki's website, and booked a test ride online.
Chap phoned me up to confirm it (booked online), got a test ride booked for an '09 versys next wednesday.
He asked what i was looking for and if i was trading another bike in for an 09 model but said im interested in the 2010 only for the moment, but for all intents and purposes they are technically the same bike so the '09 will give a clear indication as to wether im going to like it or not. I hope i do tho, ive got alot of expectations for it so hoping they arent too high and feel a bit underwhelmed.
About release date he said 'in the new year'.
Girlfriend seems to be convinced ill be coming back with a new bike but i know i wont, as much as i very much would like to, i dont know all the options available to me yet so not going to make an uninformed choice.
Nervous and exceited as ive never test ridden a new(ish) bike before! What are other peoples experiences when they have done it?

Shop around & do try dealers that you think wont be able to compete..
I saved near on £1600 on my brand new, in the crate, 09 Hayabusa all 09 spec & colours (not old stock) by using a smallish local dealer (beat large shops & others by over £600)
They sold bikes (Suzuki) at good discount & made more money on a yearly retro for selling units from Suzuki..
This must apply to a lot of outlets these days..

Oh, and a lot more friendly for test drives (even on a Busa) than large (no after sales friendly service) outlets..
They tend to take bike sales personally which makes the whole experience, part of the buying excitement
