Whilst swapping the cams on my bike i managed to crack one of the camshaft caps, which i believe effectively write of the head (the caps are machined with the head if im not mistaken?)

So now my options are either get a new head, a new engine or a new bike.

With regards to the last option what sort of price do we reckon i could sell my bike for with a cracked cam cap? The engines done about 40k km, in good condition for its age. 1996 model bike.

Im just trying to see which option is going to be best for me as ive been getting quotes of about £300 for a new engine.

Cheers

That question is a bit like the old how long is a peice of string question.

A replacement head C/W cam caps will be the cheapest repair option IMHO

and will leave you with a spare one (nearly)

I'd say buying a complete engine would be good if you could be certain of it's history and state of repair then again you could refurbish it and have something thats like new again.

Buying a complete engine with a knackered bottom end might allow you to build one good motor from the two.

Some crook will buy it off you fit an engine that they have sitting on a bench collecting dust and sell it on at a tidy profit..................or at leasts that what I'd do :smt002

Im in Lincolnshire,

Im after the cheapest and easiest repair really.

Where would be the best place to be looking for a engine, or an engine with a knakerd bottom end?
