Anyone keep fish?

the other day i asked on Freecycle for a fishtank larger than 3ft cos my fish need more space for a 40" telly and a new 3-piece suite they want.

Got an email offering a tank thats about 5ft
Picked it up today, fkin 6footer it is fkin huuuuuuuuuuuuuge it is. me n legsy struggled getting it in the land rover.

Now my tank at the moment is a 55litre freshwater one. I know for a fact the filer will not be able to handle the amount of volume in the larger tank.

Freshwater fish only, purely cos im lazy
orandas, plecs, loaches etc

got a couple of orandas at the moment witha 2 common loaches, a hill stream loach and 9 white clouds that i have called "Delta Squad"

All of them will be going in there. Need to build a base for it, but all thats gonna happen after my flat is refurb'd.

To be honest im finding it a bit daunting, a tank of that size lol.

The new one has one section on the right side, split in two, for filtration i assume but could do with more info. I am confuzzled as to get an internal or an external filtration system. Cost is an issue but all help and recommendations welcome.

Ill get some pics of it 2moz as its in the garage cos it stinks lol

Cheers

if i were you i'd remove the internal filter box and just run an external. easier to maintain, gives you greater volumne and swimming space and since fancy coldfish are messy feckers, a greater area for Nitrifying bacteria to build up. Easier to do water changes too. I'd also suggest some sort of Phosphate remover, ideally SeaChem Seagel as there's additional carbon in there too. Don't get an AquaOne one though as they're toad. I'd suggest a TetraTec, probably a EX1200.

I've experimented a bit with keeping fish in smaller tanks, and it's surprising what they can survive in.

Even relatively big fish are fine and I've kept these ones for years with virtually no effort:

You'll need a powerhead to draw water through the first section (which you'll fill with media) and pump it out through the outlet. By the time you've pissed about buying all that it'll not be much different cost wise to an external, which will give better results... and a warrenty

so the best idea would be to remove that section and get a Fluval FX5 External filter ?
they work out about 150 quid avg,

if you can get it out without making a mess then remove it and go external, soo much easier to maintain.Nice tank you jammy git.

Yeah, the only thing i'd say is be bloody careful at the bottom not to damage any of the silicon.
