My tool box is getting very old now and it's getting too small for my needs and falling apart................so I'm thinking of something new.

I know there are loads on Ebay but postage to here can be ridiculous.........................
I've found a couple of Clarke boxes on machine mart that appeal to me here and postage to here is reasonable

I like the black and gold ones and the yellow contractor ones

Thing is I like to actually feel how the tool box drawers move................it should feel like your running you hand up a virgins thigh.................all smooth and loverly

Anyone got experience of these boxes or of any others ?

I'd really like a Snap On box but even second hand the cost is huge

i bought one of these last year, best £65 spent in a long time, feel a bit flimsy and the bottom cover bends easy if not closed properly, but the top box is good stuff, would definitely recommend them.and they do a bigger version for £128

cargo, ive got a halfords pro top box and they are great. Not snap-on quality but stand up to transit vans and cold wet awning floors no probs. I payed just over a 100 quid for a 7 draw roller bearing one which is garenteed
for life. You can get a discount with a tradecard, which are easy enough to get hold of.

I know what you mean about the price of SNAP-ON boxes (Mine cost £5k +vat!!!!!), but they are worth every penny when you compare them others, even to MAC boxes (there bloody awful for the money!). Although MAC are bringing out a Kawasaki box (MSS Discovery i believe), so that will be nice
Aslong as you get roller bearing draws, they should be pretty silky smooth, alot of it depends on how often your gona use it, i've got a cheep thing at home but i dont use it that often, but the SNAP-ON one i have at work earns me my living so it pays to have quality. Teng tools products are pretty good to be fair, so might be worth checking out there prices http://www.teng.co.uk/

We have the halfords pro (industrial?) boxes at work, the black ones, and was looking at the clarke black/gold ones last week in the gloucester branch when i went to collect my new compressor..

IMO the halfords ones are fractionally nicer.. the clarke range is better and more expandable though

both are regularley discounted so its down to price at the time really ..

I'd like snap-on too (who wouldn't ?!) but there'd be something wrong about the tools being the most valuable thing in the garage ..

Wish i had the space for a cabinet with chest

Got a couple of 3 draw chests with top boxe's - one's a cheapy and I've replaced the latches on it, drawers run on rails similar to kitchen units.
Just got a another cheapie unit (better than above) which has bearing rails and the drawers glide out as smooth as you like.

Have to limit what tools I can have or they will consume the room !! My building tools now live in the boot of the car as no room for them in the flat - I need a lock-up !

Interesting stuff guys......................my current box is a Tengtools one six drawer..............and that is as big a Teng tool go.................the Teng tools site also has Sealey boxes these look nice but perhaps a little pricey

If Halfords did the inductrial one in a 9 drawer size I think I'd go for that but the don't...............however I'll call at my local Halfords and give the drawers a grope and see how the glide the 9 drawer pro one for £119 does look like very good value....................and it matches up nicely with a 7 drawer cabinet for £99

I'd need to reorganise the workshop a little if I went for both...............losing some shelving but gaining a cabinet.

Any more thoughts ?

I've got a clarke pro and its stood up to me working as a contractor for 4 years then being emptied on a weekend for racing, its definately battered and bruised but its had a tough life. It still works fine.

We use Stahlwille and kennedy stuff at work. They get crashed into, dropped and generally abused 24/7 and do pretty well.
