I finally have the beast!

After a several hundred mile round trip to Stoke on Trent (thank god for lowloaders and turbodiesels!) in excellent company, my ZXR400 now resides in my shed! Not running at the moment, think the battery's goosed from sitting for a year. Everything else is spot on though, chain and sprockets are good, bodywork is good for age, and both the tyres still have the bobbles on them

set myself a personal challenge to get her running, taxed, tested and sorted by friday so I can ride up to Kielder reservoir on her

) Got it for the princely sum of £600 from a mate of a mate. The battery is totally buggered, got a new one on order from Wemoto, but in the meantime I jump started it off my partners car - considering it hasn't run for two years and had stale petrol in it, it started on the 7th crank! And what a noise!! Has a straight through race can on it and it howls like a wounded banshee!! The neighbours complained, the dogs went mental and my youngest stepdaughter ran away!
Been checking it over tonight and I'm fully confident that it should pass the test - engine runs fine (although the choke creeps off so you have to watch it till it warms up or it stalls) all the bearings seem ok, all electrics work spot on, suspension seems fine as far as I can tell, race can is stamped road legal, fairings are all secure, everything seems tight - just can't seem to fault it! Still hate going for the mot though!! always worry I've missed something!!
Cheers

Think well have to rename you dick turpin!!
Thats a stunning price for the condition it seems to be in. Im sure it'll fly through the mot, sometimes its worth chucking it in just to see what work needs doing to get it to pass.

might change my user name to that then! lol! Honestly. thats all they asked for it - bit of a long story but in essence a mate of a mate was looking after it for his brother who was working abroad. He wanted the garage space to build a kit car (AC Cobra with a 6.5 litre V8...!) so sold it to me cheap to get rid of it as brother now had a harley (some people...)
Just had a look through the service intervals - the bike's on 34000km and I've no idea whats been done to it previously although it seems to have been well maintained, so I've made a list and will go through it as I can afford it! Cam chain first, then worry about everything else!
Cheers

Absolutely furious!! the bike runs a treat and I'm chuffed to bits with it. Rushed back early from work today and took it to the garage for the mot, hoping to go for a spin this evening, to be told they'd decided to go home early today for the bloody crappy football, even though I'd prearranged the test!! Methinks I'm going to find another garage where the mechanics can find their own arseholes with both hands! :smt013

all sorted now - bike passed it's MOT with flying colours!

Still can't tax it though, the V5 is being fed-ex'ed over from America (long long story!) so until I'm the registered owner it'll have to stay in the garage

still, it'll give me something to look forward to!

Nice H2 - the best ones
Always liked that colour scheme too
Choke on my FCR's switches itself off too but only have it on momentarilly anyways - no need for it just now though
Now get modding it
Enjoy,
MM!

yeah, I found that it doesn't really need the choke to start, and once it's away it goes like a bomb! just had a cracking ride out today with a mate on his R6 and had no probs keeping up his tailpipe

) great ride - Yarm to Saltburn, up the coast road through Brotton and Carlin How, down Lythe Bank into Sandsend and then up to Whitby for a cuppa and a pastie, then over the moors through Fylingdales, into Pickering and then on to Helmsley for another cuppa, and then up the Helmsley TT to Stokesley and down the back roads to Yarm again

) Loving the summer hols!!
