Frame Number ..?

Hi,

MOT station just let me know that the frame number on the bike doesnt match the V5.
I have every MOT since the bikes import in 1998, and the V5 and those certs match; BUT the frame IS different.

What am I supposed to do?

I just checked the kawasaki japan frame number checker and both numbers are incorrect according too that (V5 ends with HA, actual frame number ends with 46)

Regards

The frame must have been changed and not reported to DVL.

Or there have been some kind of mix up and the number not read and copied correctly

What do I do about it?

Frame definately hasnt been changed by me, and all the previous MOT's etc have this 'wrong' frame number on?

Just rang them and they said that as the MOT tester was able to continue then it will tell them to look into it, and more than likely will be a typo on there part.
If they need any more info they will contact me by post, and I AM FINE TO RIDE THE VEHICLE UNLESS INSTRUCTED OTHERWISE.

I recoreded call so hopefully all good.

If the V5 has a different frame number to what you have then you'll have to notify the DVLA that you've changed the frame number.

That frame could be registered to somebody else, so techincally you don't own it until you notify them (as you dont' have proof of owernership of the frame)

The V5 document has a section for notifying them of changes to engine / frame numbers.. you just fill in the changes and post it to swansea and they'll issue a new V5 with the updated details.

I'd get this done as soon as possible.

Sounds like the frame of the bike was changed at somepoint and the DVLA were not notified of the change.. can be changed for a number of reasons.. most common is that the bikes had a smash and bent the frame.

Occasionally it can be done to hide the identify of a stolen bike... all parts from stolen bike built into new frame hence new bike. But since you have all the history for the bike it looks like the frame was changed.

Or every previous MOT station has been too idle to check the damn headstock and has just gone off the previous MOT; and Doovla typo'd on import

a) nicked
b) crashed/bent/rebuilt
c) a victim of government incompetence

I'm 100% sure its a DVLA cock up now.

Tried writing 49 (its 49, but 46 as previously stated) scruffy, and it looks like 'Ha'

Numpties

agreed, all my frames have id's ending with digits rather than letters.

Oh I just read that it's an import.

They probably wrote it wrong on the log-book then!

AFAIK all ZXR L frames are ZX400L - xxxxxx (numbers)
