Good buy? ('93 zxr 400)

So i'm looking at getting my first "big bike". I have my eye on a 1993 ZXR 400 that has done 42,000 KM. Asking price is about £1500.
As you can see in the photos it has 3 rips in the seat and one in the pillion seat. The left side has a plastic weld on the bolt above what i think must be the clutch cover which itself has some scratches on it. On the other side of the bike there is a weld around the bolt below the brake lever. It also has a small peice missing from the front guard. The bike is a good 4 hours away so im not really in a position to go have a look myself and have a test ride.
Perhaps someone can see something else in the photos? Think its a fair price as well?
Im kinda sitting on the fence right now not sure what to do!

Thanks for the reply! That is what i was thinking but 400's go for silly prices here in NZ (not as bad a 250's though! Most ZXR 250s go for twice this much). This is the cheapest of 4 that i have my eye on. A VFR will set me back £2300 and RVF £2800. Everything else is in the £1600-£2000 bracket. My budget is less than £1500 really! Was thinking of offering £1200.

Id pay a grand tops if it were me. Its clearly been on its side n there's no guarantee its been properly fixed either. But defo asking too much at 1500.

Mate an L9 is unheard of over here! The latest model I have seen is a '95 that had been resprayed black (from the black/purple it was) and that sold before i could even view it (same day it was advertised!) for £2200.
We have quite a few 400's here but 90% of them are between the years of '88 and '93. I can pick up a GSXR 600/750 for the same price as a VFR/RVF. Bit of a shame really!

I can only imagine that the high prices for 400s is because they were never officially imported to NZ and so the delivery costs are included in any pricing ? ?
At this rate all I need is to move to NZ and I'd be a millionare

hey i bought my kawasaki 91 l reg about 3 weeks ago and it cost me 1030 only problem i can see is the clutch cover case has been down but by the looks it, it was years ago. i dont know what the bike trade is like in nz so abit of a tough one just keep a keen eye out the best one's usually are around 1k-1.3 i mean anything above is really nice but too expensive especially considering its your first big one (like mine) goodluck getting one though! ride safe also when you do look at the bike have a good look at the front end forks disks etc alot of chavs buy these bikes and dont know how to ride them and wreck them

I have been tempted again.
This time buy a 94 model with only 15,000 km on the clock and looks to be in perfect condition. This one is going for £2300.

Look matey,
unless it is in mint condition, has had the head gasket done along with a major service i wouldnt pay anything more than 1200 quid.
A 1994 ZXr400 for 2300 i would expect it to have a full race exhaust system + can, braided lines, perfect body work, brand new tyres, pads, bearings, chain and sprockets.
I bought a bike that had all that except the head gaskett + servce and paid about 400 quid for a local bloke to do the work.
Even though the ZXR400's are stunners, and they will always look stunning, they are getting on a bit now. Expect to pay out some wedge on top of what you paid for the bike. I promise you that you will need to get engine work done.

get whichever is in best nick, price comes second.
I have two bikes, from the same year 1997;
GPZ500s, 33000 miles, cost £800, spent in first year £1500 (new tyres, full system, rear shock, braided lines, heated grips, top box, reg rec, wheel bearings, disc, pads, chain, sprokets, oil and filters) Total £2300
ZXR400 L5, 37000 miles, cost £1500, spent in first year £450 (new tyres, indicators, pads, rear seat, heated grips, small top box, oil and filters) Total £2000
Hmmm, which was the better deal?

I would not pay £2300 for a 1994 ZXR 400 either but dont forget guys sil3nt is in New Zealand a completely different market from here in the UK.
If he really wants one than he will have to pay the price as determined by the local market.
A loaf of bread on the IOM is twice the price of UK prices.....................local market local prices................
Prices will be different and based on demand and the cost of importing a bike from outside of New Zealand. ZXR400 were not officially imported to New Zealand.
They might have the best rugby team in the world but they seem to have cocked up when they decided not to import ZXR400s
