Just a thought
I'm new to the 400, although not new to carbed kwaks, I had zx6r, zx7r, zx9r, zxr750
Looking through some previous topics and posts it appears the 400 takes a lot more setting up to get it running correctly
Just an observation

I'd say the opposite!
I bought mine from a dealer and never touched a thing on it in all the time I had it. If you could have improved anything I'd be very surprised!
On the other hand some people DO play around with all the settings before they sell them on...
My current ZX9R is the only bike I've had a proper play with suspension settings, and the difference it makes is pretty amazing. It makes me wonder how many who thought their bike was a bit crap missed out by not getting the suspension sorted....

I spent a lot of dyno time with my first zxr400 try to get a good set up and playing with the air box................it had Micron full system and K&N air filter.
Cant remember what the main jet size was or where we had the needle but it made 60.1hp and that was it no more everything else we tried playing around with the standard air box just killed the top end or what little mid range there was.....................................
I reckon Mr Kawasaki got it pretty much right for his standard engine and it's only tuned ones that need much extra setting up.................
I do of course have a wonderful RMKD tuned engine now and it flies

Mine hasn't really needed any adjustments for the past several years other than a click or two for different tracks. Initially we spent a fair amount of time on the dyno getting it tuned, needles were the issue in the flatslides. That and my tuner is VERY finicky. I asked him if he was getting frustrated and he said no cause it's just such a cool little bike.

After getting it tuned correctly I could whack it full throttle above 6K and it wouldn't fall on it's face with the flatslides. Race gas helped a bit too in that respect.
