circuit lap time list?

i'd be interested in seeing what times people are putting in at different circuits, and on what stage bike (ie stock, stipped, stripped and race tuned etc), to give the rest of us a good bench mark to aim for, or a guide for how quick we are.

For example, i just spent a day at mallory park, and my road bike (see the luggage rack, salt all over it, and the heated grips...) pi$$ed all over most of the 600s, half of them track tools, especially round gerards (5 over takes of 600s in one go, round the outside!) but was loosing out on the straights. What i'd like to know is a) what some of the more capable riders/racers are doing on similar spec bikes, and b) what a fully prepped zxr can do, so i can compare against times for bigger bikes. I'm looking at moving up into the fast group next time, but i'm worried that a non-prepped zxr will get trod on by the mainly race prepped bigger bikes up there.

Any thoughts?

you can do a google search for most tracks and find the 400cc lap record i think for cadwell it's a 1.38 , what was your times? as with all track days there's a variation in skill and balls lot people just enjoying themselves and wannna make sure they and bike go home in one piece :smt001

especially those of us who rode there! I haven't been able to time myself yet, my zxr doesn't have a clock (my gpz has a small analogue clock (like a watch face) in the centre of the rev counter, so the needle swings around it, looks rather smart) so i've not been able to time myself. I was hoping for an idea of where i am in the normal skill range.

Hi Gav
I would say that a lot depends on which track, I have been to Mallory test days on my 400 race bike which is 79 bhp, and have been out with BSB bikes and riders I didnt get lapped or have any problems, but it would be a different story at say Snetterton which is a power track.
I did a track day at Oulton just before Christmas it was -3 deg allthough the track was dry I ran wets to try to keep some temp in the tyres, I was lapping 1.58 in the fast group there was only an R1 race bike which was faster. If I was booking a track day this is what I would do, but it is a race bike with correct gearing and race tyres.
Mallory
Oulton
Anglesey
Cadwell
Fast group

Snett
Silverstone
Rockingham
Intermediate group
Hope this helps

mines a std road setup. At mallory it was just touching 14k in 4th (110-115mph) on the back striaght, then dropping to about 10-11k round gerards (not 100% sure, too busy passing other bikes biggrin )

i'm tempted with fast group next time (i did fine at cadwell in the inters on my std GPZ500!) just not sure on bikes top speed. Then again, there's always someone on a cb500 or even the odd single!

Her are my times

I run front of inters/rear end of fast

Mostly done on me big fat zxr750 piloted by moi, fat and fifty :smt003

Mallory 1.02
Donnington GP 1.54
Rockingham National 1.23
Cadwell 1.52
Oulton 2.02
Anglesey Coastal 1.23

As you can see I aint the quickest out there but to me its about fun (my excuse for being toad)

One point, trackday groups vary so much these days as to the speed/ability in a group on a particular day

I use an Alfano lap timer but I dont go chasing times anymore, I'm happy with a smooth confident ride on the day

i've noticed that. i've noticed the novice group is about 45% novice (and by that i mean wobbly and unpredictable), 45% inters or slow fast group (competent riders, small or zero chicken line on tyres, but not as fast as the racers up in the fast group due to ability or slower bikes (ME), and only in novice becuase it's a new circuit or the other groups were full) and lastly 10% fast nutters riding like dickheads because they couldn't get a space in the fast group, and cutter people up on corner entries makes them feel good. The sort of people who probably hung about with kids 3 years younger so they felt like big boys. :rant I had one of these (prat on a supermoto) cut me up by going under me into the chicane after gerards at mallory, totally threw me off line. Later spotted him weaving about through the group around gerards while the rest of us were hanging back and leaving a little space.

Later the same tw@t fell off half way between gerards and the chicane (how, it's a bloody straight!) on the first damn lap after a red flag! :pmsl I'm not kidding, me and the instructor were just passing out of the pits when the flag went up. What a knob. Mean while, i rode sensibly, didn't cut people up, and rode home afterwards!

Will try to time myself next time round. am tempted to try fast group next time, but with better sorted gearing, so i get out of 4th would be good! should help me a bit.

Fair plqy to all you track guys out there, but i will stick to my 140cc mini supermoto for tracks ( kart tracks) as i fear crshing can get expensive on anything else!

140cc. minmoto?! bloody hell, i'm guessing around 30bhp, in a 50kg bike at most. that thing must shift!
