just wondered if any members have any alpinestars items and what they would rate them out of 10?

smx - plus 9/10

i currently have alpinestars smx-plus boots seen alot of bad reviews about them but there perfect, great feedback not too harsh to walk around in keep your feet warm in winter and are actually fairly waterproof drove home in snow heavy rain and nothing got through debating spending a mother load on a 1 peice just wondering is it worth it?

The are high than the ankle mate.
Just a little shorter than full sized boots.
I find they support the ankle alot more than regular bike boots. Helpful to stop you from loosing your footing.
Go try a pair on, give them a whirl. There is more than enough protection.

What do you want protecting from? If i have an off my shin is the last thing ill be thinking about.

i use an alpinestars two piece suit, good thick leather, very comfortable once broke in a bit, feels uber solid! can't fault it! like most kit, you get what you pay for...
having said that a few years ago, i had some smx-3 boots and the stitching failed around the laces after a few months, but to be fair, they were replaced no problems for another which lasted very well!

Right, I have,

Alpinestars T-Stunt Air Jacket - 8-9/10 (5years use)
Brilliant for everyday Summer use. Comfortable and very ventilated. Has an inner jacket that helps with a cold breeze and a mild shower although not very great when it is really cold but still able to get a jumper on underneath.

Alpinestars Winter GTX Jacket - 9/10 (not sure of make 5years)
Excellent Winter road jacket, very warm as it has a fleece lining (removable), loads of pockets inside and out, gore-tex so waterproof and breathable however you need to wash it every so often with Nik-Wax to keep it like this. Back and arm vents to let some air through

Alpinestars GPS 3 Boots - 8/10 (5years)
Very comfortable boot, waterproof and warm. Have used these for Track and Road serve well, couple of crashes and they are still good. I have used these pretty much everyday and still find them a good boot to wear. Due to wear and tear the front of the boot has worn slightly lost its warmth.

Alpinestars Supertechs R Boots - 11/10
The best boots ever! (mainly for racing), great feel through the pegs, comfortable light and very protective as there is an inner boot. My ones are not waterproof probably not even showerproof as they are perforated lol :pmsl And White is a pain to keep clean :smt013

SP2 Gloves - 7/10 (5years)
Again used these everyday plus for track, very good glove not best for all round protection does have carbon knuckle protection easy to get on and off. Great feel but after all the use they finally wore through on the palm. Both pairs of gloves were tight to start with but then were comfortable after a few time wearing them.

SP1 Gloves - 6/10 (2years)
Actually not very impressed with this glove! Good feel through the bars and great protection full knuckle. Nice and comfortable my only problem is they are not hard wearing. Not had them for very long and the A* is coming off the gloves also the finger and thumb have started to wear through so had to re-stitch them up. Other then that they are not so bad.

Storm GTX Gloves - 9/10
Only got these a few months ago and so far so good just for Winter but could use for the wet weather racing! Gore-tex so waterproof and breathable, very comfortable lining inside which keeps hands warm however if the temp. is low like it has been after a while the tips of my fingers start to get a bit cold on the straight long rides but still very warm. I don't really use Winter gloves as they are normally very bulky but these ones are not so. Still get good feel from them and able to use the instruments but can be a bit fiddly (maybe just me). Very good protection for a Winter glove!

Hope that helps.

interesting thread. I've got

Apline Stars 'Jet Road' jacket and gloves, about £350 for pair, nearly 2 years service (15k miles?). 6/10
good protection and generally water repellant, but it does soak through on heavy showers, so i end up soaked. reasonably warm, though tonight i has 3 shirts and a jumper on under the thermal liner and jacket! takes a good sized back protector (extra £40). Also, the loops inside the sleeve to locate the ends of the thermal liner broke on day 2, and the loops at the back of the next gave way after 3 weeks. the trousers have one massive bonus - ankle to hip zip, means i can get in and out without taking my boots off. They're reasonably warm, but the zips like to jam, usually when i'm over heating and desperate to get them off, and are a buggar to free. the tabs on the zips like to snap off, meaning i've had to replace them with key rings. also some of the little hi-vis trim has started to fall off.Recently one of the zips broke so the right leg likes to come open whilst riding. little breezy...

SMX-5 Waterproof boots. £200 9/10
so far these have been nearly excellent. totally water proof, and more comfortable than my trainers. i only take them off because the heel of the sole seems to be wearing fast. downsides; both toeslider mounts like to leg go, i've lost two sets so far. also, despite being waterproof, they seem to have buggar all insulation below the ankle, resulting in numb feet very quickly. In the same conditions and £5 pair of ex-army boots keep me warmer! but then they're not really designed for -5deg c temperatures, so i won't count this aginst them too much.

I also own...
Arlen Ness 2 piece suit. £360 down from £700. 11/10
The quality of this is amazing, not one thing has yet broken. both jacket and trousers are of good thick well cut leather, with plenty of perforated areas and stretch panels. It is also very well tailored, and once in the usual on bike crouch they fit perfectly, without restricting you.
Only downside - i'm too fat for them now!
