Hey I'm wanting a new bike and this is the only bike forum than I'm signed up for so was hoping someone can help me out as I know little about bikes. My budget is about a 1300 but at a push I could maybe go higher but I really shouldn't as thats pushing it, I've been told to go for the zx9r but I'd prefer a 750 so the zx7r appeals to me more but I like the srads aswell. Got a 400 but needs work and I want to ride again, if I got a zx7r it would have to be in green cos thats my fav colour for the bike but really would like a suzuki. Love the 7r, how is it to ride? prefer the zxr750 to the zx7r meself, had 2 zxr750s, hated the 1st and loved the 2nd.

You will get a better one a bit cheaper if you keep looking. Thats had the newer rear end stuck on it.
I wanted a carby one ( 96,97) and paid 2.1k for it with a genuine 4k miles on it. No such thing as a mint srad as they look scruffy out of the factory! and they all need the cam chain tensioner sorting be it a 1996 or the last of the injected ones.
Once sorted they are very nice to ride, light and livelly.. alot faster than any kawasaki 750 ( i love them too) everyone loves the look of the 7r, the srad is love or hate looks!

The 750 SRAD is an absolute weapon, love them.

My bro had a gsx-r600 K1 that was pretty tasty.

ZXR750 - I'd only get one of those if I couldn't afford either a decent 7r or gixxer 750 or fancied something that would eventually go up in value as a classic.

The 7r is a dream to ride (I've had three and raced one). As long as it has a new rear shock they are mint on road or track. A bit on the heavy side but the front end is outstanding, even now against new bikes. The one you linked to with the full acro sounds pretty decent, just budget for a new rear shock as the standard one will be seriously crap by now. If you keep the 7r around 9-10k rpm they really fly and sound mint. There's lots you can do to keep the 7r up with newer tackle but the weight will always be there unless you splash out on a full carbon fairing (I did )

The gixxer's are decent bikes (quicker than a standard 7r) although the finish on them is one of the main let downs. The Tokico brakes are excellent when fresh but once the seals go they can be a nightmare to sort resulting in needing either new pistons and seals or new callipers. The 7r shares the same brakes too. Gixxers tend have been thrashed - a lot, including heavy wheelies, stoppies etc so have a good look at one of these for crash damage before you part with your cash.

well, instead of spending all that up front, have you thought about buying new? kawasaki are doing some nice finance offers at the mo, and at least you'll be getting a perfect bike for your cash (two years warranty & national breakdown included, another 2 years if you want for about £150 or something).

I just got a bargain you see - brand shiny new 2010 plate er6n on an 11plate (bought may 14th), for.... £4800! £100 up front, then about £120 a month for 3 years, fully paid off (oh the wonders of 0% finance), but still worth about 3k! can't go wrong! but that was with a tasty discount, but even full price for 4 years on 0% you'll only be paying £116 a month.

ok, so the er6 isn't good past 120mph (revs out in top, and it totaly naked), but that something to look at - it's redlining at 120 in top... this means you've got a sweet close ratio setup for speed between 50mph and 110mph (after that acceleration drops, as your revving past peak power). On a roads nothing will touch you, beucase you're using all your 62rwhp at those speeds, as opposed to spreading 120rwhp (2000 gsrx750) over a 160mph top speed.

so one option would be to save your 1300 cash, spend 100 now on deposit, spend 120 a month on a brand new bike, and maybe treat yourself to an akro end can, or just cover yourself fully comp, and get a nice helmet or whatever.

and incase you're wondering, i've got a zxr 400, gpz500, both of which have been on track, and i'm currently doing about 2-3000 a month on my er6n. fuel isn't too bad, thrashing cross country gets me about 48mpg, and nakered tyres... cruising at 80 on the mway gets about 55mpg.
and yes, I did just bald the shitty dunlops in 4000 miles... roll on the pirellis.

try an er6 if you get the chance - save your pennies for the zxr400!

Thanks for the replys, you guys have been loads of help. I was thinking of new but shouldn't really be borrowing more. Decisions decisions lol, think I'm going to stay with kawasakis for now tho.

Thanks for the offer but I purchased a ZX9R and major smile factor it is, gonna sort my 400 over the winter and will sell when it's gets warmer.
