Need some help identifying something please

Post by Jack94x »

Hi everyone
Basically my bike has (or at least did have until I recently snapped it) a rubber coated wire with a knob on the end of it running from the carb somewhere which used to adjust the bikes idle speed when you twisted it.
I had a look on Kawasaki original parts and I think it's number 16021/A on the diagram-

Just wondering if anyone can confirm that's the right bit? And if so how easy (or not) it is to get to/replace.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Cheers.

yes, thats your idle speed adjuster, you need the spring as well as the washer, otherwise it will turn whilst you are riding and your idle will either creep up (bad) or down (bad).

you can buy it there from kawasaki brand new, or get a set of L model carbs from ebay that have the adjuster still attached, then re-sell the carbs, or you might find one on ebay. The parts you need are:
16021-1149 = the cable
92022-1480 = the washer
92081-1621 = the spring

the spring and washer are a few quid each, but the cable is £55, so its worth shopping around...

in the meantime, if you can find a long threaded screw you can use that to set your idle speed...but its a temporary fix/bodge at best, be careful though, its a very fine thread, M4 0.7mm TP maybe at a guess???

Thanks for the reply banner, very helpful! :smt003
Good to know I can get the bits new from Kawasaki if need be but like you said, I'll have a little look round first.
Do you think you can get to the adjuster to replace it in situ or do the carbs need to come off?
Cheers.

the adjuster is on the right hand side of the carbs where the throttle cables attach, so you can get to it with the carbs still attached
