Dusting Off The Cobwebs

Post by Deebow »

Hi all,

I have a 400 which has been garaged for 5 years.

It's now time to kick my a$$ in gear and get some road time.

The battery i know will be goosed, so I will purchase a new one.

What I wanted to ask, is there a list or advice for things to check / clean before I try to start the bike ?

Clean carbs, fuel tank etc ?

Any help / advice is greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Jordan

Same as any bike really, drain the fuel tank, lines and carbs.

Drop all the oil and coolant, replace with fresh.

Consider replacing the sparkplug. Put some oil down each bore now.

Put the bike Into first gear get it rolling and drop the clutch a few times to free up any stuck plates.

With no fuel, and a fresh battery fire up the bike a few times to get the fresh oil through through the pump and up into the cams.

Now add fresh fuel, and prime the carbs, put the battery back on charge.

Turn off all unneeded electrics (lights etc) and fire up the bike, test all electrics, clutch and gears.

Replace tyres, check brake disks, chain etc.. Have fun
