Do you mean in terms of paying a garage to look at it?

Probably looking at £100-150 plus the cost of the shims... Or you can do it yourself, or i or someone else on here can do it for you, or come by and give you a hand?

Why do you think it needs doing, or is it just preventative.

Can you do any of the work yourself? A ~30 year old bike is not something to take on unless you can do the work yourself or have deep pockets. It's a fun learning experience though and will be applicable knowledge to many other similar bikes of the era.

Hi thanks for the advice,
It's just she's being lying up for seven years and I decided to try and bring her back to life
Iv'e rebuild the carbs, breaks front suspension cleaned and sealed the tank, and so before I spent any more, she sounds a bit rattly bit tappy
probably a good idea to get her checked, but iv'e gone as far as I can knowledge, time wise, I would love to be able to do this myself but I never checked valve before, would love to be able to drop by but I live in Dublin very kind of you to offer.
There's a really good bike shop here called NDM I'll try and get her in there but It won't be cheep,
Iv'e gone this far so may go the hole hog ?

Thank's again

You would be advised to fully check over the tensioner, tensioner blades, change the chain and then do the valve clearances

Not sure if the H models do it but the clutch basket on the L’s rattle like mad.

Been plenty of cases ok here where people have thought the can chain or valves were bad and it was just the basket rattling (Which in told they all do).

Just check it isn’t that first.
