My engine is very noisey so i suspect that the cam shims or the valves are the problem but does anyone know the position of which they fire or where the camshaft needs to be the check the clearance ?
Thank You Dean

0 Valve clearance must be checked and adjusted when
the engine is cold (at room temperature).
.Remove the following.
Cylinder Head Cover
Spark Plug Retainer
.Using a thickness gauge, measure the valve clearance
between the rocker arm and the cam.
OWhen positioning #4 piston TDC at the end of
the compression stroke:
inlet valve clearance of #2 and #4 cylinders
exhaust valve clearance of #3 and #4 cylinders (see
Camshaft Removal)
0 When positioning #1 piston TDC at the end of
the compression stroke:
inlet valve clearance of #1 and #3 cylinders
exhaust valve clearance of #1 and #2 cylinders

Try to make sure its the cams making the noise before you take it apart.

Eliminate other possibilities such as clutch rattle and cam chain noise first. Does noise go away with clutch in? Is it a ticking sound that increases with revs?

Also make sure its nothing else non-related to the engine such as nearby loose bolt vibrating, keys on yokes.

How do you know when the piston is at the end of its stroke just be taking the spartk plugs out and getting something to touch the piston ?
