Engine sound

ay up all after a little help my zxr 400 L is sounding very chuggy/fluttery/tappaty. im thinking timing chain got no record of a new one or valve clearance wat you guys say??? iv heared there a bit chuggy anyways but this is quite extreme thanks dan o if it i valve clearance how hard is this to do? im pritty handy witha rachet but never done this before

valve clearance is fairly simple if you good with spanners.
I dont think the valve clearance would make it chukky, not sure though.
is it jeted right?, have u made any changes to the bike, that might causing to be chuggy.

May just need the carbs balancing, if its lumpy on tickover then itll defo be that.

Valve clearences is a right giraffe of a job on the ZXR lol
Done by shimms, so you have to remove the rockers, but then the frame gets in the way so it ends up being easiest to drop the engine out :smt013

you having a laugh there mate ? the rockers slide out of the way on the rocker shaft, just slide them sideways, pop them up and hook them behind the cam lobe, then change shim, pop the rocker back, turn the engine over by hand and check clearance .. repeat for the other 15 .. agreed its not exactly "easy" and can be a laborious pain in the ass, but you dont have to remove anything.

you want "fun" try doing a zx6r.. have to take the bloody cams out as there are no rockers and the shim is under the bucket which is under the cam .. grrr

chears guys looks like im gonna have fun there then!!! hope fully start that soon also gotta change my fork oil seals just looked on the online guide and its fryed my brain stripped some forks down the other day seemed a piece of cake have i got any nasty suprise instore with my zxr?
