Wat does the restrictor kit for a zxr consist of, are they easy to install and uninstall, how much are they, where can i get one from and how do the police know if the bike is restricted?

Most common is washers that restrict the air flow avaible from F1 international but the law dosnt state how the bike has to be restricted so you could just pull of 3 HT leads if you wanted to! As for removing the washers its easy as removing the carbs, cost about £200 fited new but secondhand (if you can find them) more like £30.

As for the police part many people belive that YOU have to prove to the police that the bike is 33bhp this is not the case. Its up to the police to prove you wrong thus the only way they can do this is dynoing your bike (expensive and takes a lot of time) so unless you've badly hurt/killed somone i personaly wouldnt worry about them doing you over.

I got pulled over a few times when on a full power zxr750 that i hadent restricted a few times and they never even asked (most coppers in cars dont even know about the rule)

Cool. Would you say it's worth abiding by that particular law then? Seems pointless to neuter your bike. But then again, better safe than sorry.

If you don't, and you get caught, you are effectively riding without a licence - because your licence doesn't cover the vehicle you are riding. That's a fairly serious offence.

In addition, your insurance is basically voided by not having a valid licence. So you don't have any insurance should anything happen.

I'm not going to make any comment on the likelyhood of you actually being caught. But I will say that a 33bhp bike is still pretty quick, and two years isn't really that long.

Make your own choice.

Not having your bike restricted means that you are riding without a licence and are therefore voiding your insurance.

How would you feel if you seriously injured someone and your insurance company refused to pay out because you were riding without a valid licence?
your insurance company may not ask to see your certificate of restriction. *BUT* the T&Cs do say something along the lines of "providing you have a valid licence" which if you dont have your bike restricted - your licence isnt valid. EOD

teh 33bhp restriction is there for a reason, certain people choose to ignore it. You make your own choices - just dont expect any sympathy if you get caught in any sticky situation.

you might get away with not havin it done if you get stopped but touch wood, if you have an accident the insurance will go to hell an back to try an get out of payin up so dont give em the excuse. theres always a reason for these things i guess.

my zxr is restricted and i think it still goes like stink. i seem to not carry on accelerating after 12000 rpm and a couple of times ive gone to overtake n though o toad wheres the power gone so be wary of faster travelling traffic when ur overtaking them. i still need to do a speed test though as ive tried it yet, i did get 107mph with my gpz500 restricted so i reckon 115mph. ive only got til december till im unrestricted so i wnt be riskin pullin it off yet.

doubt very much a zxr will pull 115mph when restricted. more like 100 imo, it just wont have the top end power in 5th and 6th to get to 115.

The average is about 100 mph, but having said that a member here SEAN, his ZXR was restricted and somehow it pulled 120! At first we thought it might not be restricted, but soon found out that it was. God knows how it managed it.
