ive had enough with that b*stard, tw*ating, f*ckup of a rear wheel that belongs on my bike.tonight in the garage and every race, it causes problems with the time and difficulty it takes to change rear wheels..
there must be a easier way, or a mod i can do to at least make the spacers captive.? its the rear brake hanger too..
has anyone solved this problem with any trickery? and has anyone fitted a rear brake that did'nt hinder this operation so much?

roger middleton's bike uses a custom caliper bracket that relocates the caliper above the swingarm, cant imagine its the hardest thing in the world to get made up. There's a pic on here somewhere if you havent got the mag article .. think it runs a gilera caliper ..

if keeping the stock caliper and position, a carefully crafted wedge shaped bit of wood is ace at holding the pads apart so they dont foul the disc during wheel fitting.

I thought about making up some captive spacers, got as far as deciding to replicate the existing spacers but with a lip on the inner end that catches inside the oil seals to stop them flopping out... tried it by popping out the seals, inserting the spacers then putting a cable tie round the end of the spacer and refitting the whole shebang. It works, but I wouldnt run it like that, you'd need a ring machined up that was a snug fit on the spacer, then secure it in place with a couple of grub screws i reckon.

man, i need a lathe.... and a milling machine.... and a tig welder ..

also, weld a T-bar handle on the end of the wheel spindle, makes it a lot easier to yank out.

same on the front, and swap the spindle clamp allen bolts for mountain bike quick release levers, if you really want to you can weld them together too, save fiddling about with two levers then.. then there's the calipers .. havent worked that one out yet, i think the best bet is slaves and a couple of rattle guns.

I use a cable tie bent over on it's self so it work a bit like a spring to hold the rear brake pads apart. When the disc drops into place it pushes the cable tie out...............

That sounds like the way to go!

The torque arm on the rear caliper slows everything down a hell of a lot!

the front is no problem really, no stress...but the back wheel just gets me mad, probs a good thing just before you go out on track tho
thats sound a good idea with the spacers zimm. ill have a look in a mo in the garage and see

Get a plank of wood to hold the wheel at the correct level, then use cargos way of holding the calipers apart, 15 second job. Take your aggression out on the spindle when you whack it back in. If not, ive got some quick release things on my push bike, £15 and there yours.

The problem with SS swingarms is that they add 647lbs to a bike over the weight of a standard double-sider...

mmm, not sure on the quick thing..... think i will be laughed at for not only my lap times, but my bike lookin like a raleigh activator
