A mate on another forum has a zx7, he also has the same braking problems...

Well, i was sick of the 6pots being "fluffy" under heaving breaking..

They also appeared to cause a shuddering under heavy braking, which isnt good when your turfing around!

So after doing some reading, i thought the bandit 1200 4pot nissins would be the best/cheapest upgrade (without having to get adapater plates made up)

All i can is, BEST £40 IVE SPEND IN ALONG TIME!!!!

Purchased the calipers off ebay for just under £30, that included shipping.. had to pay for some correct sized banjo bolts as the calipers didn't have any with them.

(cheers for the lift/help Wallie, much appriciated)

Fantastic feel on the brakes, the brakes are right on the tip of the lever now.. just touching them digs the front end right in and an awesome feel/feedback! Cant believe i didn't do this along time ago!

Some pics!

Fantastic, I can honestly say these 4pots are fantastic!

Straight bolt on, you can find these calipers from early 1200 bandits and some early SRAD's I believe maybe afew others too?

Mine came off a low milage 96 bandit 1200.

I think 6 pots are a bit of a gimmic, really...

I've had 4 and even 2 pots that would flip the bike over its front axle with 2 fingertips!

The main thing is the less pistons - the easier they are to strip and clean, though! :smt001

i've got the same 6 pots on my TL and there just toad, i've changed lines, Pads, striped removed the pistions and cleaned them and now just fitted a racing MC yet still the feel isnt any good.

If you can get hold of them get a set of a GSXR1000 They used diffrent pistions in them and they feel amazing on my ZXR comapired to the toad on the TL

im gonna grease up the pistons and piston wells as i figure a bit of lubrication will help them move a bit easier,

gotta love the lube!

Yep, anyone know the spacing on the zxr? Im just gonna swap my calipers for something different. Ive bled them, stripped them and am not going down the route of braided lines and mc rebuilds just to find out what i already know, these brakes are honestly useless.

same 4 pots are on my gix, been saying it for ages they are the dogs, my brakes stop the bike on a pinhead.

I think some brake systems are just crap.

My ZXR400 brakes were great but I heard people with the same bike slagging them off. Same story with the VFR750 and they were 2 pots!

I just don't think 'upgrading' to calipers from something else is any guarentee that they'll work better.

You may as well just keep buying and selling them on ebay until you find a good set, if you really can't live with it...

they work very well, just too spongy at the min

cant fault the power of them

also gonna stick PTFE tape on the bleed nipples and also the banjo bold threads too so there is absolutely no chance of air getting in.

the power on the TL is good as well but the feel is nasty, honestly the calipers are just crap theres loads of people having the same problem with them.

Scott, theres a few topics on brakes for the 400's, can go down the 6 pot rout (pointless tbh) or what id recomend is ZXR750 calipers, basicly the same as the 400's just larger. What ever you get you'll need to upgrade the MC as well (i've got one off the TL that will fit for £35 inc P&P)
