Choke to start?

When starting my bike from cold it will not except any choke whatsoever
the slightest bit and it wont fire at all
I have to just have about 1/4 " turned on the throttle and she fires up and runs
great
As i have only had the bike a week i thought i would ask if this is normal
behaviour for ZXR's.

sounds like its set a bit rich.. as long as it run's ok when its warmed up and doesn't exhibit any other weird problems i'd say dont worry about it.
dont think i've ever had one that "needed" the choke to fire up unless its properly chilly.

If i want to start mine without twisting the throttle it wants the choke on. In this sorta weather though it is hard to judge how much choke it actually wants lol, to much and it wont even begin to fire.
Usually give a tad throttle then adjust the choke to keep it from stalling in the warmer weather.

Yeah pretty sure that'll be the weather. Mine doesn't need any choke at the mo. It just leaps to life with a tap of the button.
I always feel apprehensive though as I remember the RS days when choke = more oil

unless it dropped to 5c odd my 400 never once needed the choke. The standard fueling is quite rich as well what makes it easyer to start from cold.

I'm with Rene and Gem!
My 400 never needed choke, but I would hold the throttle open to 2-3000rpm for a few seconds after starting. Only time I used choke was when I'd ran out of fuel so it got some of the reserve fuel into the carbs to restart it!
My 9r always needs some choke even in this weather.

I recently got my bike back from tuning and we got talking about how I start it. I said I try to not use the choke. He bit my head off. He said its really important with kwaks that you use full choke to start the bike, then knock it off after around 30 seconds. Dont touch the throttle.

mine doesn't want to start like that. Full choke seems too rich
