windows 2000, never found any faults with it and it was one of microsofts strongestest OS's they did (95 and 98 were the best systems they did!)

Windows 2000 ME was a prototype of XP, XP is pretty much ME but with a different interface and "setup" and the last version of XP was pretty the prototype of Vista, yet Vista is still in its early stages and is still a load of ol' trollop... good, but trollop lol

cant really give my opinion on the others cept for Mac... used to use them in school for my graphics and art work also my music, thats all Macs are really good for ... though they cant get virus' which is a mega bonus, but the software is gona set you back an absolute fortune! they supply Microsoft Office for Mac now which is no point as the Mac's own office is just as good, costs up to £1k just for a disc! its bullocks... its a graphics and music computer...

rant over :)

thought ME was win98 with bells on ?

skunk anyway..

always have win2k-pro as a backup OS ..

dont like vista, never got on with Mac's although dont know enough to diss them .. cept they cost too much for what they do.

it was and it wasnt, was mainly a prototype of XP... most of whats ment to be important to MS is that they stop hacking/copying they're OS, hense the prototypes of ME etc...

but then saying that MS had the power to look through your computer everytime you log in - i never use the microsoft firewalls etc - just gives them that opportunity

yeh, it was a pre-cursor to XP, but was based on the win98 code, not nt4 like win2k

XP and Ubuntu.
Give it another five years and Vista might develop past the point where it's as functional, useful and user-friendly as XP. No, I lie. It will never be as user friendly as XP.
Ubuntu because it's purdy, user friendly, and it just about never crashes. Ever.

What the hell you lot on about. I haven't got a clue when it comes to computers, even though i use one everyday at work! We use windows at home, not sure which (probably XP), workshop laptops use XP profesional (i think).

linux, essentially, a free operating system thats more powerful than windows, and allows you to render the entire desktop in 3d graphics and have more eye-candy than you thought possible.

its come a long way in the 8 years i've been playing with it.. barely had a desktop back then .. all command line stuff.

definatly windows XP, regardless of how i feel about some of microsofts rather dubious coding errors as far as compatability, performance and ease of use goes my most used OS is XP, because i like to play games.

other OS's i use are Solaris on my sparc and backtrack on a bootable usb drive based on slackware. i prefer cmd line linux/unix to any of it's x-windows systems

I use XP purely for compatibility with software I need.

Win2000 is the best version of Windows I've ever used. So stable. Never crashed on me once despite it running on a very poor laptop. If anything did go wrong, it allowed you to resolve it with no BSD. I guess part of its secret, like Apple OS, is that not much runs on it. Windows issues mainly arise around third party software/hardware. It's a miracle the millions (probably billions!) of software work as well as they do. Especially with so much hardware variation. Apple know exactly what chipsets are used in all their computers and all software has to be released thorugh Apple. This gives them quality control but means there's f*** all out there!

Linux shows them all up though. I've used a few distros but only through Live CDs. So fast and so much innovation. (Some of) the best things in life are free.
