just after advice from your own personal experience of passing your tests

my wife wants to get her bike license, and i have found a local instructor who will train her at a reasonable price

he offers a 2.5 or 3.5 day DAS course

my mrs obviously wants to try the 2.5day to keep cost down, but im not sure

i did a 2day intensive course and passed, but i had been riding on Lplates for over 12mths.

she has never ridden a bike, but is a confident car driver of 10yrs. and she has also ridden horses competitively all her life (so her balance should be very good)

do you reckon 2.5days is enough to get a rider (as good as novice) thru the DAS test?

I think it's quite possible to take in all the necessary information and techniques for passing the test in a day but there is no substitute for time in the saddle. If she's a quick learner maybe hiring a 125 for a few days between DAS days just to practise what she's been taught would be another option - a few days on a bike for the price of a days instruction?

hired 125 would be an option, but insurance will be hard to get i'd have thought.

know anyone with a field bike she can blat about on just to familiarise herself with the controls a bit ? im guessing with the horses etc you may have access to somewhere she can ride round a field for a couple of hours ?

my mrs passed after an afternoon falling off a superdream in my mates garden followed by a 3 day course .. and she'd never ridden before, although similarly had been riding horses for 10 years.

oh, just remembered, her last boss let her ride her quad bike over the fields and she managed that well enough,

I haven't done DAS only being 18. But after my CBT i hired a 125 for a week, insurance was no problem, and i passed my test after only one days training. Though obvioulsy easier than DAS. Though the cost of hiring a bike will probably be similar to an extra days training? I don't really know bout that one. I do think a week pottering around on a 125 will make a better rider than an extra day with an instructor though....

go for the 3.5 day. Even if she doesnt need it to pass her test, it is more time on the road

i done the DAS with no real experience on the road. i would say just spend the little extra an get it out the way

if you want to keep the cost down, then you could try thr malvern and district light cr / motorcycle club.

they dont do direct access - but if your wife is willing to take the time to do the course, then it works out a lot more cost effective (if its close enough for you)

basically the guys there are registered as a charity, and are all qualified instructors.

they charge £100 to join the club (lifetime membership) then you can go along every week for free tuition (2 hours a week), its completley free if you go on your own 125, or £15 to hire one for the two hours - first couple of weeks the will put you through CBT, then everything after that is preparing you for your test.

It was running on mondays 7-9pm but as its darker now i think it has switched to sundays 10-12
