yours looks like a std H model one, the blue one is an L model. don't think you can just swap them over cos i doubt it will work.

my bike is a sp as i looked up the engine number from kawasaki japan website but im still unsure as ive had so many different things told to me it has a close ratio box slipper clutch which i was told didnt really start being used or manufactured untill about the mid 90,s it also has adjustable cams and the single sp tail section and the green shock but it is a 1989-1990 g-reg so if the slipper clutch wasnt about back then why is there one in my bike all ive really got to go on is the kawasaki website but then i was also told they were ment to come with flatslide carbs and mine has the c.v carbs and by the looks of it the standered h model ecu HOW would i know for definate

Given the age of your bike the engine number is not going to tell you anything except what the crankcases are.
To be an orginal SP model it must have the flatsides, close ratio gearbox, slotted camshaft sprockets, compression adjusters on the forks and of course a SP ECU
I don't belive the SP shock is any different from a regulat H or L model one and single seats units are a dime a dozen.
Also a SP engine with a SP ignition rotor will NOT run using a L model ECU and loom..................
And a L or H model engine with a L or H ignition rotor will NOT run with a SP ECU and loom.
ZXR400 are so old now there are lots of bikes out there that have had allsorts of bits added, removed and replaced because so many parts are interchangable. You only have to look on E-bay to see the huge number of parts on sale.
On top of all that there are smart arses selling bog standard L and H models with a single seat stuck on the back and calling it a SP
I found one on E-bay once and it was a completely standard L model but the guy selling it claimed it was a SP on the basis that at some time someone had put a "sport production" sticker on the seat unit.
It's a nasty horrible world out there and there are nasty horrible people prepared to try and rip off the young and inexperienced................
Twice I've been offered bikes that the owner had no idea that he owned a SP on both occassions I was honest and told them..............in the end I got one very cheap because the guy was lazy and the other was sold to me at a fair price.
I saw a dismantled engine last week that came with 2 full sets of SP camshafts once again the owner had no idea as to the value.
BTW a SP close ratio gearbox has pineapple chunk shaped cut outs in the gears.............................a standard gearbox has oval sort of round cutouts.
The slipper clutch is a strange one much discussed here in the past.....................I've never seen one yet and thats after 9 years of ZXR400s and perhaps 10 engines through my hands................??????????????

if i can i will take the clutch cases off and take some pics for you, obviously my bike has the sports production tail unit on it lol but it is by far the fastest 400cc bike ive ever been on and im used to riding much bigger bikes and ive been clocked at 140mph onnit so she isnt slow i dont know how fast an sp is at top end but even if mine isnt genuine im sure there isnt much difference power wise

yours is a h1 mate. Its sounds like it is a j1 model. Thats the h1 sp.
You wont have flatslides, because they never came out of the factory with flatslides until the H2(j2). The J1 has slightly different cv carbs to the normal h1. Also they have what looks to be the same forks as a standard h1. They are again slightly different internally, but no bottom compression adjusters on the j1, only on the j2,M onwards.
the slipper clutch thing is weird... I think that they came with 'some' standard L models, and all of the Sp models. Ive got a j1,j2 and a 93 import L and they all have the 'slipper' clutch, not that you can feel it to much. On the j1 before it was tuned, it did actually work enough to knock down 2 or 3 gears at high revs without skipping around, but with that plate arangement with the higher state of tune just slips like a twat on the power. I think rmkd did some work to one of his and got one working nice, but i dont know how.
Also, im fairly sure that my h1sp had the red stickered cdi...which i presume would be standard
