I recently read an article in mcn about a rider who sent off his license to change his address. When he got his license back he was no longer entitled to ride a motorcycle, but did have an HGV license!! The DVLA had no record of him ever havin a bike license when he enquired. Luckily he photocopied his license befoer he sent it off, but i don't know how the story ended

Anyway this left me a little wary of sending off my license to change my address but it had to be done. Now before i sent my license off i had 3 points for doing nearly double the speed limit, which i thought was lucky to keep my license. but in all fairness it was 1am and it was a 3 lane carriageway that for some daft reason has a 30mph limit!!

Got my license back last night and its clean as whistle no points at all Now im pretty sure this basically means someone down the line has cocked up, but it does mean my license is officially clean?? only had the points for 4 months!!

Not sure if id be comfortable with that myself, ive heard of people sending off for new licences claiming them as lost so they have two copies, one thats clean to send to insurance companies for cheaper insurance, and another with points for the wallet for producers for the police. But knowing its not right and the feeling of what trouble it might cause for me id rather send it back and have it done properly.

that would be an ideal thing for me as i have 3 pwa from feb.. could do with the DVLA messing up my docs so i can get no points lol but the grim reality is that i think the points are stored on a computer somewhere or something cos the court put the points on dont they?!? i would sceriously think about blagin your insurance to say you have no pints cos 3 points dont make much difference to be honest and if they cotton on (and i hear they try everything not to pay out) your done for.
ill take the points with a pinch of salt and not make the same mistake again lol.

Insurance companies have a separate database which they share.

If you you haven't declared it on your current insurance then you MIGHT get away with it - if not then I should imagine it will be available if they check it (no doubt just when you need to claim and they cancel your policy).

But surely when their new license comes through it should have the points transferred onto it?

How long you had the points for?? Me personnaly, i would get in touch with the DVLA and see what the crack is. 3 Points don't make that much difference to the cost of insurance anyway, ive got 6 points left now on my license and it doesn't cost me any extra to declare them, so why risk it.

I didn't request a new license before my points were on or anything, i sent the license with the points on to them to change the address. I've only had points 4 months so they definitly wern't mena come off.

Also i think 3 points would make a difference to me as i'm only 19. And theres the whole 6 points and ure license is gone in ure first two years thing.....Which i'm not sure about as i've been driving for over two years, just not riding.

In all honesty i'm not gonna bother ringing them as i can't be bothered with the hassle, if its not on my license its unlikely to be on their records......but mainly I just don't want any points back loll.

Damn right! And I hope you get away with it because it's their mistake!

It's always amazed me how the bike and car license are completely separate until they're trying to fk you - then they class them as one...

yea that pisses me off an all... how can 3 points gained on the bike affect my car... its wack. fair doos if its somet like drink driving/riding then ppl should be banned but the points should be seperate.
im sure them points you have will be on a record somewhere mate. maybe they dont write them on your new licence because its the actual court that writes it on there. i would do an insurance check. the 3 points i got didnt make much difference to me either.
