New Jacket -Rev-It Cayenne Pro

Just been and got myself a Rev-It Cayenne Pro Jacket. £350!!

All textile, 1000 denier textile on the back, 800 denier all over, which is more abrasion resistant than leather, apparently. Plus, the addition of ceramic implanted panels on the fore arms which prevent melting and are the main reason why the jacket is so expensive. Lots of pockets, and plently of straps and poppers for adjustment. 3 layers, one breathable, one waterproof and one heat unsulating. CE armour in the elbows and shoulders, some sort of padding for the back but i believe you can get a proper CE insert to go in.

Not very sporty i know, but i ride all year round and i need a jacket that can be used all year too. If it gets dirty i can stick it in the washing mashine aswell. Plus what ive read about these they are good long lasting jackets and alot of research money has gone into it. Looking to get a touring bike in the next year, so should go nicely (check out my desktop, who can guess what it is?? Answer on a errr...postcard).

Thats a nice looking jacket that, reasonable price aswell for the spec. It'll beat the toad outa a leather jacket for cold comuting.

Hey that doens't look too bad. Doesn't look nerdy, and doesn't look like a cheap sports jacket that couldn't afford to be cut from leather. Certainly looks warmer than leathers too. Mind you I find its the fingers that suffer the most!
Does it have a waist zip so you can attach it to "pants"? Don't want that riding up in a slide!

Those pockets look useful too; I bet you can use them with gloves on. I Hate faffing about trying to get into inside pocket on my leathers.

May I recommend some Alpinestars Drystar Vega's to compliment your new warmth:

Oh I admire your confidence in the forthcoming summer too! :smt004 :smt005

I wouldnt be surprised if it tipped it down all summer!

Yes it has the zip for the pants, £220 if i wanted to get the matching pair, i saw a pair on ebay that finished yesterday went for 56 quid and had only covered a 1000 miles from new! Had i known my pay packet i might of got them, having said that im actually looking for some leather trousers next. A textile jacket with leather pants is supposedly the best combo since the leather acts as a splint in an accident and its the legs that suffer the most, not the upper body. Also have the added benefit of legs usually staying dry when it rains so being leather wont matter so much, and i can get knee sliders on ;)

I really like the look of it too, i think the red breaks it up alot, there was a plain black one, off white colour with grey and a completely bright in ya face ORANGE!!!!

Havent worn the jacket on the bike yet (tomo i will tho), so no idea about the pockets, but the zips were a revision over the older type jacket as this one is a redesign on the last model, but do need new gloves which is the next thing on the list. My summer ones that ive had for the last 7/8 years have holes in the fingers and the winter ones which im having to wear cos the summer ones are shagged are starting to do the same.

really? my legs get absolutely soaked in leathers!! yesterday they got so wet the red dye soaked through and coloured my leg in!!
Whereas my upper body remains 100% dry in leather jacket...strange lol

Are you sure??? I'd have thought that the hands, elbows and shoulders take the brunt of the force in a slide?

That's definitely been the case in my offs anyway!

Nice jacket, though! Very expensive - but then what's your upper body worth? I paid £240 for my Lookwell Goldline jacket and it's survived a 110mph accident and is still good enough to wear to the pub without looking like a tramp! I got the trousers with them, too. Huge rip in the knee but my skin survived...

I would agree, i also came off at 110 (track) shoulder elbow, forearm has worn through the leather!! gloves aren't too bad.
Though i would say your hip takes a fair bit of the slide.

My legs always stay quite dry. Textiles are becoming so good these days that the actual abrasion properties are better than leather. But it does depend on the textile. This jackets made from 1000 and 500 denier cordura are the toughest you can get after ballistic fabrics. Cheap jackets are usually made from low denier products which easily melts and the abrasion properties are crap.

Regarding legs, im going by what ive read. Im guessing the fact the legs will flail about, but then i guess so do arms. Im guessing its going to depend on the type of accident but maybe legs are more prone to breaking than arms?

I read it on another forum where the poster works for the police as a motorcycle advisor of some sort. Here it i found it

That is why I said that it is something of a compromise. A good fitting leather will act as a splint which is something a textile can't do, and it is for this reason that one of the best combinations is leather trousers and textile jackets as it is the lower body that suffers most in an accident, but stays realatively dry when it rains!

This happens!

My mum got that in gambia beginning of the year!

Got out on the bike yesterday and it felt quite drafty round my waist. Went out again for a spin today and noticed there's an elastic pull tie at the very bottom, did it up and made all the difference. The vents work really well too and i was comfortable in the jacket for the 3 hours i was riding, never did i get too hot nor did i get cold when the sun went away. Strangest thing is it feels almost as heavy as my leather jacket, yet when im wearing it and on the bike i hardly notice im wearing anything, it feels really light!

eeeek! I coulda bought 5 jackets like the cheap one I got the other day. all i need is waterproof, if i crash I figure I'd be dead or worse, don't think a jacket would save me.

Don't think thats the best way to look at it....loads of us have fallen off and walked away thanks to good protective gear.
And theres a few on here that regret not wearing the proper stuff as it wld no doubt have saved them alot of pain and problems.
You may aswell wear the best you can afford as I personally think you get what you pay for with this gear....

Unfortunately there is an element of truth in what you say, sometimes investing all the money in the world in gear isn't gonna save you, but you may aswell give yourself the best chance......

I would ask what you imagine is worse than dead....but i think i'd probably agree with you vsad
