Okay im sure most of us lot are very safe riders and only get up to the hundreds when its clear and safe to do so, just goes to show what one minute of taking a risk can do.

Woah that made my stomach churn i'm new to biking and it certainly makes you think. Personally i'm not a risk taker but i've seen people do it and don't see the point, your only putting yourself and others at risk all for what? getting one car ahead? getting somewhere a couple of minutes early? showing off? I'm not saying i'm an angel neither lol it just shows a simple error can be devastating think of the van driver and the car that nudged him let alone his family and all the people who whitnessed it kids etc...

I aint going to watch the video as I feel im already well aware of the dangers of riding a bike, but from reading the article its people like these bikers that give us all a bad name and make biking anti-social, its just a shame the bloke has lost his life and ruined other peoples lives due to abit of stupidity and has probably left wife/kids without a father/husband.

Yeah the car shouldn't have been overtaking obviously not looking at road markings or mirrors, but then again the bike shouldn't have been doing that speed. Just pretty

really i thought it was only going to show them breaking the speeds not the actual crash. When i was learning to ride not long ago i couldn't believe the amount of people pulling out infront of you and i even had people walking out in town centres and they didn't bat an eyelid just shows you need to be alot more aware when on a bike as not everyone is aware of you!

Dont think it would have mattered what speed he was doing, he was in the wrong place at the wrong time. But having said that, had he been going slower he may have been able to slow down to avoid it. Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

From what you guys are saying its not as clear cut as the article makes out then, is it another case of blame the bikers as they are a minority?

Its clear to see that if it wasnt for that car, that never would have happened. I think the speed he was doing was irrelevant tbh, although it didnt help. There was plently of time to look in the mirror to see him, it not like he came shooting out from nowhere, and for the car to make a passing where it did was completely inapropriate.

A spokesman for speed charity Brake described the suspended sentence as a "nonsense" and a "complete let-off", adding: "When somebody has consistently and deliberately broken the speed limit to this degree they deserve to be punished.
They can f*** off.
Makes my blood boil. I might set up a charity called
MIRROR, SIGNAL, MANOEUVRE.
Research shows that reducing the average speed on a road by just 1mph is likely to reduce the frequency of crashes by 5%
I'd love to see their working out there. I've seen some twisting of statistics before but I really need to see their calculations for that. Utter, utter bullshit. They need to get their heads out of Excel, and into the real world. Here's a suggestion for them:
Sweep the roads.

Oh that stupid Brake charity are a bunch of toss pots, they want everyone to drive at walking pace to make up for the lack of education given to drivers upto passing thier test.

Sorry but im a bike rider and im completely on the side of the car driver! The motorcyclist was travelling ridiculously fast! If you watch the video you can see that the car has started overtaking and is commited to the overtake long before the motorcyclist gets close! The motorcyclics would have covered a mile in around 30 seconds! Its w***ers like him who give bikers a bad name, im not saying he deserved to die, but he did bring it on himself! Speed limits are there for a reason! Bearing in mind his mates speedo at the time of the collision was at 100mph and he couldnt keep up with him he must have been doing around 120 which would have been atleast triple the speed limit! The car driver was in no way at fault for the collision! There was nothing he could have done to avoid it! It was also an absolutely ridiculous place to be doing thos sorts of speeds! 100mph+ between to lanes of traffic?!?! what on earth was he thinking?

That's pretty bad. It looked to me like they both were at fault really, but more the biker. The car had poor observations and didn't look immediately before he pulled out, but probably didn't expect something coming up that fast behind him. You can see the overtaking car is very close behind the car in front so it's quite possible he's going to overtake, especially as it's a wide road, but i'm not sure if the biker could see the car in front. He was probably going too fast to assess the situation and react anyway.
I'm sure the car driver will always check before overtaking now. It's a shame the biker can't learn from his mistakes

i saw this days ago..... i have my own opinion... both at fault...biker and car driver.... but only biker judged in court ..says it all. dont care how fast ya going... as a driver of a car.. mirror signal then move....and double check.......... he dint in my opinion
