Doh!

It seems I am the undefeated heavyweight spazmo champion of the world!

As you may know, I have spent a fortune trying to get my gsxr400 back up and running and to save costs put the replacement engine in myself. The engine was a piece of crap, but my mechanic cleaned it up. He got it started, but it wouldn't rev, it then wouldn't spark. He spent weeks doing the timing, scratching his head, then decided to get new coils and cdi.

The mechanic got a new cdi and coils. Started fine, then stopped. He noticed that the padlock key dangling down from the ignition was sparking against the frame.
It would seem that when I changed the engine and replaced the clutch cover I got a wire caught somewhere making the whole bike live. Hopefully this hasn't ruined the new cdi and coils.

Moral of the story. Don't ever let me anywhere near anything mechanical, ever.

LOL the joys of mechanicing!

We all make mistakes, and at least you've had a go and it COULD have saved you a load of money!

Good stuff.

I once spent about three months replacing ignition and ecu components on the Vitesse, in order to try to get it to turn over, because even the starter motor wasn't turning.

In the end, I actually called in a friend who is rather more competent with car electrics than I am, (not something that's particularly hard to achieve), and he simply looked at the starter motor and said 'oh, you've got the little spade connector on the wrong terminal'.

Bink, on the right one, and she fired over first time.
