pilots??

Went out for first time on my zxr today....carbs all set properly but have 2 turns out on pilots...has 98 mains.dj needles clip on top groove...when pulling away its trying to die and very boggy..but then when it clears its fine...pulls all the way to red line...goes nice.....ticks over fine.....any ideas...no air leaks....standard airbox(is it worth taking snorkel off?)k+n filter.....art race can....
