I got hold of a set of carbs off a 2002 L model, to fit to my 1990 H,
so that I can run hot water through them to stop carb icing. But I'm
not sure what parts off the old carbs should be transferred over.
I moved the main (98) jets over to the newer carbs, but not sure
what else, if anything, should also be swapped over. Want to keep
the whole thing as standard as possible.

Apart from the internals of your old carbs i dont think you will need anything else except the pipes from the radiator hose to the carbs. To keep them warm coolant is fed from a radiator hose by the LHS genny cover upto the back of the carbs. You can see in the first picture the pipe coming up from the LHS of the bike upto the carbs, then exits on the RHS of the carbs into the back of the motor in between inlet 1 and 2 as shown in picture 2, not sure what you will have in between the inlets if your doesnt already have the heaters.

The take off from the radiator hoses you can see in picture 3 underneath the genny cover. That the pipe with the black inline (im guessing some sort of filter) thingy.

Sorry, could you be more specific when you say the carb innards? Do you mean floats,
pilot screws, air jets etc? As you'll guess, not exactly sure how to do this, so need an
idiots guide.

I have hoses mod'd up to allow me to plumb into the cooling system, however from the
rhs of the carbs, the hose breaks into the hose that runs around the top end to the
radiator, as opposed to into the block. Drilling and tapping to mimic your bike was
suggested, but have opted to try the two hose option.

i just meant jets for the internals. cant think of anything else that would need switching over.

As for hoses, it probably doesnt matter a great deal how they are plumbed just as long as there is good flow in the pipes

Do you have quite a big problem with carb icing?

Major issue with icing. I'm in central Scotland, and from the first early morning
frosts in Sept/Oct, right up till Xmas, anything below 1 or 2 degrees caused
problems. I used Silkolene Pro FST which seemed to do the job, but at £12 a
litre, it's not cheap. A couple of cap-fulls did the job to start with, but with the
colder temps, you end up using about one fifth or sixth of a litre per full tank,
and a week of commuting means filling the tank 2/2.5 times.
I thought a permanent fix, like they did to later bikes, would be easier in the
long term.

i have carb heaters and has still suffered icing,

didn't want to know that......
Ah well, if it even just reduces the amount of icing it'll be better.
