question for ya's technically knowledged peoples.

regards the balancing pipes on the carbs, now there is usually 2 sets of pipes connecting pairs of carbs or the inlets are blocked off with rubber caps.

if one of the pipes comes disconnected or one of the caps is missing leaving the inlet stub exposed, is this likely to cause running problems?

yes, as the cylinders with the missing pipe/open nipple will be running lean, and with an uncontrolled unpredictable mixture at that because the air is entering downstream of the carbs.

probably,

there should be two pipes, one linking 1 and 4, the other linking 2 and 3.

not sure how important it is to link this way.. but it might be.
