hi there, my throttle cable went ping on the m62, and while i spent a lovely day on the roadside in huddersfield, id like to fix it asap. ive called around for a new cable, but it seems there are 2 cables, and i dont know why.

the cable snapped as i was accelerating if that helps figure out which one has gone, and it snapped at the handlebar end right in the swithc gear housing.

so if anyone can enlighten me upon this it would be much appreciated...

and if anyone has one for sale too please let me know, ta, andrew.

Yep, theres two, one for opening the throttle and the other for losing it, im sure its a safety thing as to why its got one that closes.

Anyway, can you rev the bike? I take it you cant hence you were stuck. So you know its the top cable looking at the throttle cable holder at the carbs. Check the manuals to see which part it is as both cables are slightly different, i think the one you are after has the curved guide at the end where it enters the swich gear housing.

Would you believe that if and this is a very big if andyvandrepandy has a SP then the throttle cable is different to a L or H model one

If you can rev it it is almost certain the throttle open cable thats broken

Or you could remove the bottom cable from the carbs and just run it with no return cable so just having a pull setup instead of a push/pull, it is a safety feature the two cable setup one pulls which accelerates, the other pushs which closes the throttle in an emergency, the springs on the carb should shut it but its belt and braces.

I would warn against running a single cable. I used to use single cable setup on my zxr race bikes. One time at eastern creek raceway I was coming into a turn at 200k's and was stuck on full throttle. I did end up stopping. but took a few seconds to turn off the ignition. Was a bit scary...lol.

cheers
