New Pattern Radiators / Oil Coolers and repairs

Post by Tirpitz »

Several people have posted up concerning the difficulty in getting oil coolers and radiators in decent condition and new ones are very expensive indeed (oil cooler £440 shocking ). So I thought it would be worth looking at firms which manufacture pattern radiators and refurb damaged ones. These people http://www.aaronradiator.co.uk/pages/motorcycle.html actually show an example of a ZXR400 radiator they have completely recored for £220+VAT - repairs are cheaper. Again it's not cheap but for this you are getting a pretty much as new rad for a damn sight less than OEM. They don't repair oil coolers but they will make a new one using your knackered one as a pattern for £200+VAT.

Maybe worth investigating if you're struggling to get anything decent from a wrecker and brand new is not an option?

a few years ago (12 in fact!) i got an oil cooler from straightline racing which was designed for a bandit 1200. i think its a 13 row iirc? it was about £70+p&p. i got the lines made up locally. might be worth looking into other bikes' coolers.
anything is possible with enough time and money. and an open mind...

I recently purchased a new radiator for an H1 from "auperformance". It is a quality item and the welding is first-class. It took just over a week to deliver. Since H models are now around 25 years old, buying a second-hand item may not be a good idea because although the exterior may look OK, the internal tubes could well be furred, reducing the cooling efficiency. If anyone needs a replacement radiator for their H1 model, it may be worth considering the following e-bay offer: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/281317583223? ... 1423.l2649
Unfortunately they do not offer replacement radiators for the L models, presumably because curvature is required for the core.

Sorry guys but I've been sitting on this since crimbo.spoke to auperformace.enquired about rad for l model, explained how hard they are to source and that it would be a good seller.told me that they were working on it,just trying to perfect it as it is a curved rad.they would offer me first one approx £199.bargain eh.still not sure if I'm going that root or zx6r g/j model.not reached that point in rebuild yet.so it might be worth dropping them a message see if they have sorted it yet.
