intake hoses

is it true the intake hose pipes are purely cosmetic.
gonna streetfighter my l3 and wanna fill in the holes on the tnak cover.

My race bikes have ram air boxes so the hoses are long since removed.
I have run without the hoses back in the days when I used the standard air box

You can buy a tank cover with the holes already filled in
