Sorry, another temperature related thread...

Post by crushedlizard »

Hi, I've had a look at the microfiches but can't really make sense of them. What is the relationship between the temp gauge sensor and the fan? Do they share a sensor or have independent sensors?

I noticed the other day that my bike didn't overheat for once because the fan came on when the gauge was just over 2 bars (or mid sort of level - basically at the temp it's supposed to). My fan doesn't normally kick in until the needle is at the top of the gauge.

I was wondering if my fan switch/sensor is dodgy but have no idea where it is or how it operates on the ZXR.

Thanks

(one day I'll sort this problem and I promise I won't start any more 'heat' related threads!)

Fan switch is screwed into the front right of rad , looking at the front of the bike.

The gauge thermistor is screwed into the outlet elbow on the back of the head.

Check the fan switch wires aren't corroded around the switch area.

if you short out the two temp sensor wires, the one in the radiator. if the fan fires then your temp sensor is shot. do all the tests as per the manual and see what it shows up.
The bike only goes as fast as you want it to...
...i know, it's great :D
