I second that!!! getting shims out is nowhere near as fiddly as putting them back in, so just take your time and make sure you've properly covered the hole beneath the cam chain. I didn't and i dropped one down there but luckily it popped out at the cam cover. Oh and make sure you lube everything back up with a bit of oil

Hope this helps
i used a thick piece of welding wire (mig or tig type) flattend the end and bent it over slightly, put a magnet on the wire and a tiny amount of grease
you will find it easy to place the shim in and the "grip" of the magnet iasnt enough to pull the shim back out
