ER 6 engine on ZXR400?

Hi,
I read that the ZZR600 engine fits perfectly on the ZXR400 chassis, but does anyone knows if it is the same with the ER6 engine? I think it should be amazing a motorbike light as the ZXR400 with the torque and power of a 2C, moreover to the chance of reaching 80 HP with no excessive stress for the engine, that starts from 72 HP. :smt077
I think that in a road that bends several times, a motorbike like this could fight absolutely in pair with the modern 600cc 4C, since many times having 120 or more HP is unuseful for having a real fun.
Thanks in advance for the reply :smt002

hi don't know about the er6, but i do know that the ZZR600 engine does NOT fit staight into the zxr. none of the engine mounts match up, with enough cutting and welding you may be able to shoe horn one in, but it would probably not be worth the time and effort.

sory to be the bringer of bad news, looks like its time for some tuning work instead.

good luck

you should get an er6 motor in easy, they arent very wide engines being only 2 cylinder. Not sure if they would be a faster engine for the bike, but would sound half decent!

I've been searching ebay for 2 weeks now and cant find an ER 6 engine cos this is a bike I plan to build.

The top two bikes in the Ultra lighweight race at the Manx were both ER 6 engined home made specials the winning bike is a complete one off never to be repeated home made frame and the bike that came second is a CBR 400 Honda frame with an ER 6 engine fitted..........................if anyone knows of a ER6 engine for sale let me know beter still an insurance write off with a good engine would be brilliant.

i seen on line that the er6 engine weighs 62 kg,
id say the zxr engine might weigh over 70 kg,its pretty heavy,
so i know the sv 650 engine would probably be to big to fit in with the shape and all,but it weighs only 43 kg and puts out about the same power as the er6 engine,
it would be a seriously light bike!it would never fit right?

The engine in the er6 / er6f are basically the same unit and produce about 72bhp. The engine in the versys produces about 65bhp and 45 lb/ft torque (similar torque to most 600 4's but at 7k revs not 14k revs), however, the versys has a fatter mid range than the er6 and gives very useable drive (in all weather conditions) out of low /mid speed corners. I've got a 2007 versys in std ish tune which out punches a lot of 600's out of corners only to be caught down straights (good sport on bumpy twisty B roads). So if you want a good punchy engine for the road the 'V' could be a possible donor. By the way, the exhaust header on the versys has a link pipe(similar to the ones found on original zxr headers), this is what helps with bottom end punch, keep it if you can as far as i know the er6 doesn't have this. All you need to do to fit the 650 twin into the zxr frame is find a very clever mate who is a deamon ally welder and machinist ( if you find one let me know). must admit the zxr has better top end and even though mines 17yrs old it is in a completely different handling league to my 'V'. But the engine in the 'v' is a hoot, it wont blow your mind or put the fear of god in you but a hybrid zxr/versys would be a blast. Roll on spring.........
