I know you can't select 2nd from 1st when stationary unless the ball bearing is removed from the gear shaft.
Question, has any one done this and can they please point me in the right direction and how to do this in a L5 box, thanks

Save yourself a lot of work and just rock the bike forward a bit , up on a paddock stand turn rear wheel by hand and clunk it up a gear - from there you can select any gear you want.
Don't bother using the clutch unless bike is running but I guess your query is to do this while it's not.
MM!

In answer to the question why? as user name suggests it is used for racing and bump starting in second is sometimes an advantage.

I can understand that..........................the ball bearing is removed from mine (not by me)
The problem is that finding neutral can be a real pain sometimes as it just shifts from 1st to 2nd and back again .........really annoying.

From reading the manual, not only does it stop you from going into second at a stand still but it also stops you from hitting neutral when moving off.
If you want to be in second at a stand still, keep the bike in 2nd gear when you park up
