Funny noise when pulling off in first.

Today I noticed when pulling off in first, the engine sounds a little funny and the bike struggles accelerate for a bit then once into the higher rpm it's ok and sounds fine. If it makes any sense the noise from the exaust sounds like there is an extra beat or two to the usual deep 'pud, pud' sound sorry for the description, but it's difficult to explain. Any Ideas?

Misfiring. Check the plugs (try new). If that's not it you'll be looking at the coils and leads. But try some fresh plugs first. Is it ticking over ok or is it lumpy? How does it start - nice and quick or are you having to turn it over a bit before it fires?

It fires first time evry time, feels a bit laboured though compared to normal. I'll change the plugs, is it worth putting the iridium coated ones in? This is also going to sound like a really dumb question, but how do you lift the tank on an L2 model? do I need to empty the fuel?
You help is much appriciated.

Lifting the tank is easy just get a good grip of it with your hands and lift.
If you want to know how to remove or unbolt the tank that is a different question all together.
undo and remove all the retaining bolts..............turn the fuel to off.................disconect fuel pipe and lift

Don't use Iridium ones, they are a total waste of money on a 4-stroke. Only benefit on a 2-stroke (ugh

) when they can reduce fouling.
You don't need to empty the fuel, just put it down level on a surface which won't scratch the paint (it will be heavy!).
Both sidepanels off. You need to take off the hoover pipes (pull out) and the plastic cover they fit into. Then the two bolts underneath which attach tank to frame. Also two bolts on the bracket at the rear of the tank under the rider's seat. Remove the breather hose which connects to rear right of tank. Turn fuel off and remove the fuel tap dial (screw in the middle of it to loosen then pulls off). Remove fuel hose - slide retaining clip down hose, then you may need to prise hose off tap with a screwdriver whilst pulling.
You will also need to remove the airbox (bolts round the perimeter plus two inside hidden by the rubber bungs - put a blob of grease on your socket to remove those two to avoid dropping them inside). Couple of hoses on the airbox to remove first.
This will give you access to the plugs. Note that the plug spanner in the bike tool kit does not fit the spark plugs

Don't ask me why. All the ones I know of don't, anyway. You'll need your own. If you don't have one, as you are buying new plugs anyway you can take one to the toolshop to get the right one before you start the job.

Cheers for this, I have the tool for the job, but I noticed today a white froth on top of the oil through the oil window on the right (not sure of the right term.) I've not long changed the oil out and put a new oil filter, oil ect in it. could this mean my head gasket has gone? I hope not as these cost a fortune to get done, don't they?
