Tight Clearances

Hey everyone - could do with a bit of advise please....

I have just check the clearances on me L1 due to a 'tapping' sound - I found that most of the clearances are tight.
The worst is #2 inlet (0.08) which should be between .12 - .17. Could this be causing the tapping? All of the Shims are between 2.75 and 2.90.

It only taps after about 4.5K revs.

I notices my cam chain tensioner rod is fully out so tensioner will need replacing - could this be something to do with it?

Many thanks in advance

:)

sounds more like cam chain or guides to me, fully extended tensioner says to me that the chain is worn, but yes u do need to adjust the clearances into spec but tight clearances wont be noisey.

Needing a complete overhaul there , sounds like you caught it in time though !

Tight is bad shocking But good for HP shocking shocking So most never notice as your bike goes like fook to self destruction !

Camchain , guides , tensioner and shims - get them replaced and set up again.

Do a check again in 3,000 miles time and see if your clearances are tightening up again - take acurate measurements not just within clearance.

If your motor has a tendency to tighten the gap you need to monitor more - loose is good as power goes down and you notice.

If your setting up a race engine you want as tight as possible - these are stripped regular so cause no issue.

MM!
