Engine noise

Post by hogglerus »

Hi, sry if I've posted this in the wrong place but I'm in need of some help!

My engine in my 1989 zxr 400 h1 blew up and ive now just put in a zxr 400 l engine!

The engines in but something is not right! The bike does not tick over and makes a horrible noîse, if I rev the bike the noise goes and the engine sounds lush, but as soon as the revs come off the noise comes back and the engine stops!

Has anyone got any idea what this noise is and how I fix it

Thanks

there is usually a slight clattering sound from the clutch, i would say check the camchain, the camchain tensioner blade, and the valve clearances...if possibly check the condition of all the rockers too.

Id say the cam chain too. I had exacrlt same issue on another bike i had, the tensioner blade had broken. Very noisy on tickover but was lovely when revved.

Could be the clutch but typically thats not too loud.

Clutch is noisy if worn and improperly adjusted, try pulling in the clutch and see if that makes the noise stop but check before that it is properly adjusted, mine sounds horrible but pull the clutch in and it goes
