First time I've ridden my bike in 3 days, and when it's idling there's a rattle that I can hear sounds like it's coming from the cam area. Not sure if i'm just being paranoid, but am fairly sure it's different to how it was before.

I took it out, and it is not noticeable when along, just at lower revs/idle

Any ideas?

Hold the clutch in and listen for the rattle.

Will do! As I say, sounds different from the normal Kawasaki clutch rattle, but not sure.

Will give this a go and post back.

Ps. before anyone suggests, my cam chain tensioner has loads of room left to extend.

When did you last check the valve clearances? Could be that they need sorting.

And you do sometimes have to change the tensioner before it's anywhere near full extension. How many miles has it done and when did it have the tensioner changed if it ever has?

Haven't done valve clearances on this one yet, so may be well out.

It still continues without the clutch.

Not sure on how many miles the tensioners done either.

Just an update, me an my step dad were listening to it, and it just sounds like normal cams/timing chain turning, so I don't know whether i'm just being paranoid or not!

wrong.

change the tensioner if its broken...otherwise leave it alone.

valve clearances tighten over time and produce less noise as the rocker/cam gap closes.

does this rattle change/go if you increase the revs only by a slight amount, i.e. try to hold it at 1500rpm, or 1700rpm?

As ever with a noise it's almost impossible to diagnose a problem from a written description

One mans rattle is another mans tapping....................

Cargos right, best idea is to take the pulse cover off as its a quick job and check the tensioner isn't fully extended, if it is it could be the cam chain, from what you've said it sounds similar to when my cam chain went. Little bit of investigation is needed
