Slight oil leak

Post by Jack94x »

Hey Guys

I've owned my L9 for 2 years now and I've gotta say it's been mechanically spot on so far and never missed a beat. However I went to go out for a ride this afternoon and noticed it's suddenly got a slight oil leak :smt009 It's only minor but from what I could see (without taking anything off) it's coming from the left hand side of the bike and running down the bottom edge of the frame below the tank.
I plan to take a few bits off at the weekend to get a better look but thought some of you guys on here might be able to point me in the direction as to what it could/most likely be?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers.

Have you checked the gasket between airbox and carbs? If this isn't fine anymore it leaks a fuel oil mixture from the lower left corner of the carbs. Logically it starts to drip as soon as the bike is on the side stand and you should see it coming from there...

I would be thinking rocker cover or your airbox drain hole, before mine had a pipe fitted to the airbox drain hole it used to have the same symptoms.

Thanks for the help guys, that's given me a few places to start looking anyway. I'm planning to get the bike apart on Sunday so will give an update on the situation then, I'll try and take a few pictures too!
Cheers.

Turns out I was wrong :smt005 Although it was a gold-ish colour (which led me to believe it was oil) it was in fact fuel that was leaking from the bottom left corner of the carbs as Dominik suggested (Thanks!). The rubber seal between the air-box and the carbs has perished so I'm going to order a new one tomorrow then should be all fixed hopefully :smt003
Cheers.
