so im rebuilding an engine at the moment and when i had fitted the clutch basket and turned the engine over by hand you can hear a grinding noise.

I investigated and it looks and sounds like its coming from the gear teeth on the crank to clutch basket.
All the bearings and washers are in the correct order on the clutch basket, i removed the clutch basket and inspected the gear teeth, on the basket they were fine.
But on the crank there was a mark on each tooth face , so much so that you could feel it with your finger..... my question is. is the crank fecked and what would have caused this ?

marks seem to be normal as my other bottom end has them, turned out to be the basket, changed to another and it was nice and smooth
