So my engine gave out and i got an ex race engine, the guy hadnt touched it internally just oil and filter changes, i drop it in start it up and i've got this ticking noise that it prominent at about 2-3k rpm. Can also be heard when the revs are running down through that rev range.

I have got a video but it wont let me upload it will see if i can get one on

put video on youtube, post the link here.

as for ticking, its gonna be timing chain, knackered rocker arm, bad cam, valve clearances not correct, general clutch rattle or some other mechanical gremlin.

take off the rocker cover and pulsar cover, check the timing and valve clearances along with the timing chain tension, race bikes usually run larger clearances to make up for heat expansion.

fixed....was a weak chain tensioner, wouldnt rachet properly and would bob up and down even when turned over by hand. had a spare and is fine now but replaced the chain to be safe.

cheers for the help

no worries :D glad you got it all fixed, the automatic tensioners do fail from time to time, though on the whole they are pretty reliable.
