i am thinking of checking valve clearances myself...
i gather from the parts diagrams that shims go from 2.55mm to 3.5mm in 0.05mm increments...

has anyone done their shims? are shims 9.48 or 13mm diameter or what? anyone kno where to buy?

also a step by step description of shim removal and fitting would be appreciated...

I had mine done by the tunners mate, was only 250 quid for a full tune up, carbs balenced and re jeted and valve clearences adjusted and valve shims done (needed 6) and cam chain. Not bad for 250 quid cash :smt003

unfortunately seems the manual doesn't go into to much detail...

have had some bad experiences with mechanics here in Pretoria, and most of the good shops don't do grey bikes- and i'm a firm believer in 'if u wan somethin done right do it urself'

so i'm gonaa take teh bike apart day after tomorrow, see whats going on.

thanks for the input, chrs

Ive got a book that tels you how to do shims, i would scan it in for you but im still at uni at the moment and everything has gone home. Im back home this weekend if you still need it i will scan it in for you.

Its not that hard from what i read, but i think you will need a special tool to compress the valve spring so you can take the shim out. Youll also need a magnetic tip to lift the shim out.

If you could post a scan it would be great. My last race the bike started ticking as hell, thinking its the valves since its about time to do them anyway, but no clue on how to do it. :smt017
